The Marvel Comic or Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of interesting and iconic characters, which are the centre of attention in their own plots. For example, in the premiere Avengers Endgame, a lot of characters and people, but Captain America and Iron Man becomes the centre of attention.
However, Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with a whole army of side characters who have the exact same energy as the main characters. The energy and the personality of these side characters also match with the same.
The year 2021 was the year of side characters in the MCU who stood out and took over the main character energy in their respective shows or movies. Like side characters, Agatha Harkness and Yelena Belova instantly made big impressions in their respective series, which was their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
With the amount of energy side characters have and portray in the series, there is a high possibility that they might have their own shows in the future. However, let’s discuss the action of side characters in the MCU.
Katy Chen
A new thriller in the MCU Shang-chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduces various new characters. One of the most fascinating MCU Characters is Katy Chen played by Nora Lum, professionally known as Awkwafina.
Katy is Shang-Chi’s oldest friend and met him in high school. Both Katy and Shang-chi were living a normal life in San Francisco until Shang-chi got into a conflict with his father’s men. They were attacked by Shang-chi’s father’s men when Katy and Shang-chi were travelling on a bus.
Katy was shocked when she saw her oldest friend Shang-chi was fighting with other big men on his own, as she never took him as a fighter. Katy has an amazing charismatic personality with humour, and this combination attracted the audience toward her charms.
Katy helped Shang-chi in his conflict with his father, and during this, she became a warrior and fought on the side of Shang-chi. She played a key role in helping Shang-chi win the fight, and that’s why she was like any other main character in the movie.
Peggy Carter
Doctor Margret Elisabeth Carter, known as Peggy Carter, is another one of the greatest side MCU characters. Peggy debuted in the movie Captain America: The First Avenger, in which she helped Steve Rogers become the First Avenger, Captain America.
Peggy Carter was one of the most crucial characters who also became the founder of S.H.I.E.L.D. Peggy, a charismatic character who takes charge in every situation. She was discriminated against as being a woman, but she never let the discrimination hinder her missions.
Peggy chased HYDRA’s agents, a dangerous agency, and challenged the outdated notions of being a woman. Peggy was a leader and always judged the intentions of others.
Peggy would eventually become the main lead in her own series like Agent Carter in What If? In that series, she was given the role of being Captain America; she became Captain Carter and fought off with HYDRA.
Luis

Luis is a character popularly known for his humour and classic storytelling. Luis, one of the side MCU Characters, debuted in Ant-Man movie in 2015. Luis brings great comic energy to the narrative, giving a new and unique direction to the story.
Luis is the best friend of Scott Lang and a helping hand in one of the greatest missions of Ant-Man. Luis hired some people for his organisation, and they made an amazing team together. Luis became a friend of Scott Lang in prison as both of them were thieves.
The organisation of Luis is called X-Con Security Consultants, where they forgot about their life as a criminal and wanted to start off on a good foot.
Luis was like a sidekick of Ant-Man who was present in both the movies of Ant-Man, helping him with everything he had. The character Luis comes up with great energy and excitement in the movies.
Colleen Wing
A martial art expert, Colleen Wing, debuted in the series Iron Fist as an amazing side MCU character in Marvel Series on Netflix. The role was played by an amazing British actor, Jessica Henwick, and her compelling looks give the character a natural grace.
Colleen Wing was a soldier of Hand, recruited by Bakuto, who she believes her mentor. She was living in New York City, single-handedly running her own Dojo, where she teaches kids martial arts.
The Iron Fist’s main character, Danny Rand, came back from his training in the mountains, and Colleen helped him adapt his life in New York. Colleen’s energy throughout the series was outstanding, and her role was the best part of the series.
Colleen was an amazing help in the Defenders series, where all the superhero characters from the Marvel Series on Netflix come together and fight. With the fabulous performance of Colleen Wing, there is a high possibility that Jessica Henwick can come back in future MCU projects.
Ned Leeds
Edward ‘Ned’ Leeds is one of the most amazing side MCU Characters in the Spider-Man movies. He is a former student at Midtown School of Science and Technology and becomes the best friend of Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man.
Ned Leeds is there in every Spider-Man mission helping Peter Parker with everything he has. His ability to help his best friend makes him the amazing friend and side character in the MCU.
In Spider-Man No Way Home, the energy this character had inside and the part he played with that energy was fantabulous. He becomes one of the main characters in the movie, as with his magic, Peter gets a lot of help in fighting with the supervillains.
Michelle Jones – MJ
Marvel Comics fans love Mary Jane and Peter Parker’s relationship. However, in Marvel Cinematic Universe, a new M.J. was born and became the girlfriend of Peter Parker.
In the Spider-Man Series, M.J. and Peter Parker’s relationship has many ups and downs, but she is the one after Ned Leeds, who figured out that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
M.J.’s compassion, intelligence, and looks gave a new direction to the Spider-Man Series. M.J. sacrificed herself in order to help Peter Parker, and at the end of the Spider-Man No Way Home, she made Peter promise that he shall come and find M.J. after the spell.
Darcy Lewis
Doctor Darcy Lewis is the assistant of Jane Foster in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She debuted in 2011 in the movie Thor, where Jane Foster became Thor’s girlfriend, and Darcy’s hilarious personality makes her the centre of attention.
Darcy Lewis appeared in the two movies of Thor and was a key player in the series WandaVision. Because of her quick wits, she becomes the centre of any conversation.
In the WandaVision series, Darcy figured out that the town was an illusion, and Wanda Maximoff is the creator of that illusion. The role she played was not of a star but can be the hero of her own story as it goes.
Yelena Belova
Another Black Widow, Yelena Belova, the adoptive sister of Natasha Romanoff, also appeared in the currently one of the popular series, Hawkeye. Yelena Belova was trained in a Red Room and worked under the influence of a General named Dreykov. She debuts in MCU in the movie Black Widow, starring Scarlet Johansson as the main lead.
At the end of the movie Black Widow, in one post-credit scene, Yelena Belova was shown standing in front of Natasha’s tomb, and there she met one person who told her about the Hawkeye murdered Natasha Romanoff. That is the reason she entered the series of Hawkeye, to kill Clint Barton.
In the series Hawkeye, Yelena makes an instant connection with Kate Bishop, who is considered to be one of the best moments in the series. The series showcase that both Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova can and will lead in the series, and there is a high probability of making the second part of Black Widow starring Yelena as the main lead.
Agatha Harkness
A witch from Salem, Agatha Harkness, accused of practising Dark Magic, is one of the ultimate side MCU Characters in the WandaVision series. Hundreds of Years Later, Agatha sensed the presence of chaos magic created by Wanda Maximoff, and with that, she became obsessed with harnessing Wanda’s powers.
Agatha literally takes over WandaVision in episode 7, which leads to transforming the series into her own, which is titled ‘Agatha All Along’.
The witch Agatha is one of the most powerful magicians in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She was shown as just a side character in the WandaVision series, but she takes over the whole series with her powers and will be featured as the star of her own show, Agatha: House of Darkness, in the future.
