Aoi Hinami is a genius, happy-go-lucky and carefree girl who, by many common consensuses, is considered as a perfect existence.
Hinami is incredibly disappointed that the top-ranked player she looked up to has ended up being someone who wasn’t putting any effort towards life at all.
Tomozaki blames the unfair rules of life and considers himself a bottom-tier character, but Hinami believes that life is a god-tier game with no quit option.
That belief of hers leads to Tomozaki agreeing to be taught the social aspects of life by her enemy so he can judge the validity of Hinami s’ claims, thus beginning Tomozaki’s quest and struggle for self-improvement.

Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki season one aired from 8th January 2021 to 26th March 2021 for 12 episodes.
The first season was followed by two OVAs titled “Post-game equipment for girls is a little different than usual” and “Most strange spell names have unknown origins,” released on 7th May 2021 and 2nd June 2021, respectively.
On 9th February 2023, the show s’ official Twitter account confirmed the renewal of Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki Season 2 and listed the sequel for 13 episodes.

The renewal comes as a bit of a surprise considering the notorious nature of Studio Project No. 9 not producing sequels for animes.

In the finale of Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki Season one, “Equipment for girls has special effects,” after Hinami calls Tomozaki a looser, he returns to his old ways.
His sister notices his old behaviors have crept back in and thus suggests to reply to Fuka s’ text he received two days ago.
Tomozaki obliges and goes out with Fuka once again but still doesn’t confess his feelings and tells her how he is improving his life.
Days after, Tomozaki and Hanami reconvene at the same place they first met. Tomozaki accepts that one can’t judge the game without playing it.
He feels to win in life, one must challenge themselves and learn from it, which intrigues Hanami as she agrees to continue tutoring him.
The episode ends with Tomozaki working as a waiter at a karaoke parlor which is the same place Mizusawa works at.
