Captain America 4 Filming Is Completed Only Hours Before Actors Might Go For A Strike

Marvel completed the filming of Captain America 4 shortly before the potential strike by actors in SAG-AFTRA and the WGA.

After an intense production period of over three months, the filming of “Captain America: Brave New World” has officially concluded. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this upcoming addition to the franchise carries forward the narrative from the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” where the character portrayed by Anthony Mackie, Sam Wilson, fully embraces his newfound role in the upcoming movie.

Alongside Mackie, the film features a mix of both familiar and fresh faces from the MCU, including Danny Ramirez plays Joaquin Torres, Carl Lumbly plays Isaiah Bradley, Liv Tyler plays Betty Ross, Tim Blake Nelson plays Samuel Sterns, and Harrison Ford stepping into the role of Thunderbolt Ross also played William Hurt.

Cinematographer Kramer Morgenthau shared the news on his Instagram story, announcing that the filming of “Captain America: Brave New World” has officially wrapped up.

Morgenthau shared a photo of one of the clapperboards from the MCU set, captioning it with “Wrap,” confirming that production concluded just hours before the potential strike by actors in SAG-AFTRA.

Rumors began circulating about a possible strike by actors in late June as SAG-AFTRA, the primary labor union representing actors in the entertainment industry, approached the expiration of its current contract with particular studios, necessitating a renegotiation of terms.

The guild went so far as to vote in favor of a strike consent if the agreement was reached after June 30. A letter signed by a number of prominent actors, including Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, and Mark Ruffalo, garnered support from over 1,000 members.

Similar to the ongoing strike by the Writer’s Guild of America, the potential SAG-AFTRA strike arises from apprehension among the actors about receiving fair recompense based on streaming platforms’ viewership data and the need to establish consistent methods for measuring such information.

The usage of artificial intelligence to recreate an actor’s likeness, efforts to elevate recompense practices across different projects, and modifying the rules governing self-tape auditions to ensure fairness for all.

As of now, SAG-AFTRA has not reached a final decision, but it is evident that a number of studios are actively getting ready for the possible strike. Most studios have withdrawn their participation from San Diego Comic-Con, except for Lionsgate.

This development is notable because “Captain America: Brave New World” is highly expected as one of the major upcoming projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It would have been a major highlight at the convention.

However, while fans are eagerly waiting for its release but they may have to wait longer for their first glimpses of the film because its filming has wrapped up is a good sign for the fans that it is on track for its scheduled release in July 2024.

In an interview with Inverse, Anthony Mackie talked about the upcoming film “Captain America: Brave New World.” The movie is a direct continuation of the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

Mackie shared that the “Brave New World” events take place shortly after the series, focusing on Sam’s integration into the superhero realm and his struggle to find his place within it.

This update by MCU is a good sign that the movie’s place within the timeline, which is a good sign for MCU after its poor explanation of its chronology of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the recent introduction of Disney+ needs to be explained in the timeline.

The confusion stems from the series “Secret Invasion.” In the film “Captain America: Brave New World,” it has been officially confirmed that Thunderbolt Ross, portrayed by Harrison Ford as a replacement for the late William Hurt, will assume the role of the U.S. President.

However, “Secret Invasion” has clearly established that this is not the case, as President Ritson, played by Dermot Mulroney, holds the position of the President of the United States. Complicating matters further, it has been two years since the events of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” suggesting that “Secret Invasion” takes place around the same time following Sam Wilson’s transformation into Captain America in the MCU.

It is important to mull over that Anthony Mackie may not be the most reliable source when it comes to information about the MCU timeline. The actor may have taken the fact that “Brave New World” is a sequel to “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” literally.

It is possible that a few years have elapsed between “Brave New World” and Sam’s initial role as Captain America, with Mackie’s comments not accounting for other MCU projects released during that time. Nevertheless, the current update creates confusion due to the events of “Secret Invasion,” although it is expected that the timeline will be explained as the release date of “Captain America 4” approaches.

There is a potential scenario where “Captain America: Brave New World” takes place soon after “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” as hinted by Anthony Mackie. The plot and characters of “Secret Invasion” heavily reference the Blip, indicating that the show may take place soon after the return of half the universe following “Avengers: Endgame.”

This would provide a logical explanation for President Ritson’s presence in the show and would align with Mackie’s statements if “Secret Invasion” is placed according to the time between “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and “Brave New World.”

It is possible that these three projects may be shot in a relatively short period of time, potentially spanning a few months. In this context, “Brave New World” would establish Ross as the President following the events of “Secret Invasion.” However, it is impossible to determine the exact order of multiple MCU projects since “Avengers: Endgame,” as the releases have not provided clear chronological information.

It would be helpful if Marvel Studios released an official MCU timeline guide similar to the Star Wars Timelines that were offered by Disney’s other franchise. Regardless, fans will have to wait until the release of “Captain America: Brave New World” in 2024 to have a clear understanding of its place in the MCU timeline.
