Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 Won’t Happen says CD Projekt Red
Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 was never in plans!
Anime adaptions are often based on either manga or light novels however, creators sometimes look beyond written material and produce series inspired by digital content such as video games.
Many popular video game franchises have received anime adaption, which includes the likes of Pokemon, Final Fantasy, DOTA, and many more.
Recently, the action role-playing game Cyberpunk 777 by CD Projekt Red received an anime adaption by Studio Trigger.
The premise is set in Night City, a self-reliant metropolis located in the Free State of California that suffers from extensive corruption, cybernetic addiction, and gang violence.
The city is split into six districts, each of which has its own precise living requirements and is controlled by several mega-corporations, including Arasaka and its rival Militech.
The plot follows teenager David Martinez who lives in the city s’ slums and aspires to fulfill his mother s’ dream of making it to the top of Arasaka, the world’s leading security corporation.
To make his dream a reality, he enrolls in the prestigious Arasaka Academy while his mother works tirelessly to keep their family afloat.
Unfortunately, David s’ life completely changes when he is involved in a stand-by shooting.
After losing everything in the accident, David stumbles upon Sandevistan cyberwar, a prosthetic that grants its wearer superhuman speed.
He trades his academy life with a high-tech, black-market mercenary, also known as a “cyberpunk to avenge his tormentors.

WHAT IS THE CYBERPUNK EDGERUNNERS SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE?
Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season One aired on 13th September 2022 on Netflix for 13 episodes.
During an interview with Famitsu, CD Projekt Red community manager Satoru Honma said, “I personally would like to continue to work with Japanese studios to produce more anime in the future, partly because we have received very good feedback.”
While Honma appreciated the fans’ reception of Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season One, he dropped a massive truth bomb regarding Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2.
“However, just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work, so there is no such thing as we are actually working on Season 2 in the background.'”
This news would surely upset many Cyberpunk fans who were hoping for not just a second season but expecting studio Trigger to share updates on Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 trailer and Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 release date.
As mentioned earlier, the anime, which spent more than a month in the top 10 worldwide on Netflix, was a big success for its producers.
It received one of the platform’s highest review ratings ever, and more than one million people play Cyberpunk 2077 every day. As a result of the show’s success, a new patch and a discount was given on the game.
It’s a common consensus within the gaming community that the anime saved the video game, which was deemed to be a massive flop due to its buggy state.
However, CD Projekt revealed that the success of the Edgerunners anime helped drive sales even further and pushed the studio to a new quarterly financial record.
CD Projekt chief financial officer Piort Nielubowicz said. ” In terms of financials, this was the best third quarter in our entire history, with consolidated revenues at zł246 million ($54.3 million), mostly owing to strong sales of Cyberpunk. The group posted zł99 million ($21.8 million) in net profit.”
While the game is increasing its player base due to the anime s’ popularity, its disappointing for the fans who were expecting Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2.

In the final episode of Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season One, “My Moon My Man,” David battles through Militech, Arasaka, and MaxTac powers as he, Rebecca, and Falco head for Arasaka Pinnacle. Meanwhile, David’s condition keeps on disintegrating as he runs out of immunosuppressants.
In the meantime, Kiwi reconsiders working with Faraday and chooses to cut ties with him, so he has her killed as a remaining detail concerning the cytoskeleton.
Before she bites the dust, Kiwi warns David and the others on Faraday and Lucy’s area. David goes after the pinnacle, killing the Arasaka monitors, protecting Lucy, and crippling Faraday.
Understanding the circumstance has spiraled crazy, Arasaka conveys the incredible cyborg Adam Smasher to put David down.
During the battle, Faraday is tossed to his demise by Adam Smasher, who then, at that point, lethally pounds Rebecca, killing her.
David requests that Falco get Lucy to somewhere safe while he remains behind to hold Adam Smasher off.
Despite having the cyber skeleton, David is no counterpart for the more experienced Adam Smasher. However, he passes on, satisfied with the information that Lucy is protected, and regrets nothing.
In a little while, Lucy satisfies her fantasy about making a trip to the Moon yet is sorrowful that David isn’t there with her, envisioning a dream of him, one preceding he turned into an edge sprinter remaining close by her.
Although it’s confirmed that there won’t be any Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 characters and plotline, Satoru Honma mentions that “Even if we could make more anime in the future, I don’t know if it would be Season 2 or something completely different.”
CD Projekt announced earlier this month that the studio is working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, among many other projects.
The Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is codenamed ‘Project Orion’ and will be developed by CD Projekt Red North America, a new studio that recently opened in Boston, USA.
Work on Orion will begin shortly after the release of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, Phanton Liberty, coming year.
If the creators and Netflix decide, then perhaps an anime adaption on the sequel could be a possibility considering the popularity of Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
