I’m a Spider So What Season 2: Renewal Status + Release Date Predictions

I’m a Spider, So What Season 2, Will it ever happen?

Isekai is all about adventure, wherein characters get transported to another world and explore the changed surroundings while meeting new characters.

For some fans, Isekai is a relaxing watch as it breaks away from the conventional monotonous life.

Each year numerous isekais are released, and Winter 2021 was no different as the anime adaption of Okina Baba hit the small screens.

The premise is set in a world where Heroes and Demons are in constant war with each other. During one such showdown, a space-time spell misfired and hit one of the high school classes in Japan.

Every student in the class was killed, but by some miracle, they were all reincarnated into another world. Some students were lucky enough to become royals, nobles, and knights in the new life, while others were not so fortunate.

The story follows an unlucky girl who was, after reincarnation, reborn as a spider monster of the weakest kind in a dungeon filled with vicious beasts.

Initially, she is overwhelmed by the change as she is easily scared if approached and cries when she needs to eat the disgusting monsters.

Her life in the labyrinth is fraught with danger, forcing her to fight and become stronger to survive.

As a coping mechanism, she tends to act and think in a happy-go-lucky or sarcastic manner. It distracts her from the situations she finds herself in because she often fights against the odds and faces death every day.

How does she cope with her new life while making new friends along the way is the central plot of the show?

I’m a Spider, So What Season One was a relative success, and after its conclusion, fans were wondering if there would be a second installment or not.

I’m a Spider So What Season 2Yet to be Announced

Production studios consider various financial and commercial metrics before announcing a renewal.

Financially, the anime, albeit not providing a significant boost to the light novel sales, still managed to make it second on Light Novels Top 2022 BookWalker Global Sales.

Volume 16 was released on the same date as I’m a Spider So What Season 1 and sold 6,370 copies, while the special edition sold 7,573 copies and was ranked t#3 and #4, respectively, on Japan’s Top 14 Weekly Light Novel Ranking for 3rd January to 9th January 9, 2022.

As mentioned earlier, I’m a Spider So What Season One was, at best, an above-average isekai.

It was not top-rated when compared to Re: Zero, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation.

Nevertheless, looking at the sales, ratings, and reviews, it’s safe to assume there is enough evidence to warrant I’m a Spider So What Season 2.

While the response for season one may be favorable, a crucial factor for renewal will be the availability of studio and source material.

Studio Millepensee is by no means a big production house and, consequently, has only produced eight animes since 2015.

The bad news is that none of the eight projects include a sequel which further shows the limited resources of the studio.

Currently, only one project for 2023 is listed, which is incidentally also a return to production for the studio after a complete hiatus in 2022.

Furthermore, studio Millepensee has been scrutinized for their poor usage of CGI in Berserk (2016), which is also visible in I’m a Spider So What and hence caused a delay to its finale.

The CG Assistant, Tengu Kobo, addressed the issue by stating, “The outsourced animation on multiple episodes completely broke down, and Millepensee had to redo it all from scratch.”

All in All, although I’m a Spider So What Season 2 is not officially canceled, the chances of it happening look bleak.

The good news is that there is plenty of source material left for creators to produce I’m a Spider So What Season 2, which, coupled with the season one ending, could be an enticing factor.

Hence, we can expect some updates on the I’m a Spider So What Season 2 trailer and the I’m a Spider So What Season 2 release date by late 2024.
