Giving a quick introduction of the Multiverse, the first episode of Disney+’s Loki series suggested that the Marvel Cinematic Universe(The Avengers) could be setting the stage for a bigger superhero movie then The Avengers: Endgame. MCU’s Infinity saga started in 2008 and ended with Spiderman: Far From Home, set up after the events of the Avengers: Infinity War and The Avengers: Endgame which starred all the Avengers gathering to defeat the Mad Titan.
Phase 4 of Marvel Cinematic Universe consists of both Movies and TV shows. It started with WandaVision, followed by the Falcon and The Winter Soldier and now Loki streaming on Disney+. The series features the God of Mischief getting caught by the Time Variance Authority who is in charge of keeping the sacred timeline intact.
After taking Loki into custody they take advantage of Loki’s power and send him on a very important mission. To stop being erased from existence, Loki agrees with them as this is not the original version of Loki but the one who escaped with the tesseract in 2012 during The Avengers: Endgame time heist.
The Loki series introduced concepts of time travelling, the multiverse and how all of this work alongside Miss Minutes who is the TVA’s mascot, in charge of explaining to Loki and the fans about TVAs roots and how the multiverse was created along with the madness it can influence, subtly teasing fans about the upcoming movie, Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness. Taking all this new information provided by Miss Minutes into account, MCU might be planning bigger things for the future, even bigger than The Avengers: Endgame and the threats it featured.
MCU’s Multiverse And How It Will Set A Bigger Superhero Movie Than The Avengers: Endgame Explained
This is not the first time that Marvel has spoken of the Multiverse but it hasn’t been completely explained to this day. Leaving fans to make their theories about it. Till now it was believed that the multiverse not only involves the different timeline branches created by The Avengers in their time heist but it also includes different realms and dimensions that MCU had previously mentioned including the Quantum realm, the Mirror Dimension and so much more.
However, the Loki series give us some clarity about certain concepts of MCU. Miss minutes gave us a quick history lesson about the multiverse and the sacred timeline. Years ago a multiversal war took place where different timelines fought for power which resulted in the Time keepers to take matters into their hands and reorganise all those timelines into one called the Sacred timeline.
Now even the slightest of changes in the events planned for the main timeline can cause the creation of a new branch making way for a Nexus event. Therefore the TVA was created to stop the creation of more branches and keep the sacred timeline intact, preventing potential multiversal wars and madness.
Thereby, the time heist didn’t mess up the sacred timeline, it was planned to happen except for Loki’s escape in it. With the upcoming Multiverse of madness, it can be a potential path to bigger adventures for MCU.
What Is A Nexus Event and How It Can Create A New Multiverse?
Introduced by Miss Minutes, the Nexus event was already mentioned in WandaVision through one of its fake commercials, suggesting that a new multiverse is on its way. The loophole is when these timeline branches are created or Nexus events take place, the one responsible for them will pave the path for the Multiverse of madness, leading Doctor Strange to deal with it.
With the reference in WandaVision, it could be possible that her suffering is what gave rise to the captivity of Westview and was the trigger of the Nexus event hinting that the multiverse has already begun. However, we still don’t understand why Wanda was not taken into custody by the TVA for this Nexus. Given her comic book history, it seems valid that her Chaos magic is coming from a strong extra-dimensional entity able to hide her activities and the Nexus from that TVA and the Time keepers.
Similarly, Loki could also be the reason behind a new multiverse. As mentioned earlier, the TVA will take away Loki’s ability to dispose of another variant of himself that is creating distress at different points and places in time. Even though they are very careful in handling the timelines and variants, they are dealing with the God of mischief and especially his 2012 version.
Even after seeing how his life unfolded, it’s hard to blindly trust him. Even if Loki doesn’t do something on purpose, things could take a bad turn on one of those time and space trips making way for a major Nexus event that not even the TVA saw coming.
On the other hand, there’s a possibility that the events of Spiderman: No Way Home can make a way for another Nexus event as it brings back villains leaving us to wonder if it’s the beginning of the multiverse. No matter what, we are sure that a major Nexus event will take place in the MCU soon and even the TVA might not be able to stop it.
MCU’s New Multiverse Is A Potential Cause For A Multiversal War
If a new multiverse is created, not only it would cause madness but a potential multiversal war could also occur. This new Multiverse can have a diverse group of villains and strong characters that would tear each other apart for supremacy. Also, the characters may jump from one timeline to other causing, even more, bigger troubles and mixing up the timelines resulting in a huge battle greater than the fight between The Avengers and Thanos in the endgame.
A New Superhero Team May End The Multiversal War
As of now, MCU Phase 4 doesn’t have a new superhero team like The Avengers, New Avengers, or the Guardians of the Galaxy from the Infinity saga. However, there are a lot of potential fresh characters that can enter Phase 4 and build a new team. The Eternals could be the first big team of Phase 4 if they manage to stick together by the end of their debut movie. Also, there are rumours about the arrival of female Avengers, a brand new Avengers team and the Dark Avengers.
All of these potential teams can assemble in the future to stop the Multiverse war that could be build-up by the events of WandaVision, Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spiderman: No Way Home and this event will be bigger than the events of The Avengers: Endgame.
