Resident Alien Season 3 Release Date, Cast, Plot, Updates, And Everything We Know

The Season 2 of the show concludes with a significant cliffhanger: the imminent destruction of Earth. Here is everyhting we know about Resident Alien Season 3.

For people who relish extended cable dramedies lasting an hour, or what Syfy refers to as “small town, murder mystery, sci-fi doctor dramedies,” few options can surpass the appeal of “Resident Alien.”

Adapted from the Dark Horse comics series with the same title, the series features Alan Tudyk as an extraterrestrial dispatched to Earth with the intent of preparing it for obliteration by his own extraterrestrial kind.

He seamlessly integrates into the quaint Colorado town of Patience, coincidentally the location of a recent murder, assuming the identity of Harry Vanderspeigle, the local physician and a fresh face in the community.

By the time Season 2 arrives, Harry’s fondness for humanity has grown so profound that he abandons his original mission, just as Earth becomes threatened by an even more perilous race, the Greys.

At this juncture, Harry also becomes aware of an enigmatic alien infant, and gradually nurtures paternal emotions towards it, further complicating the situation.

As of August, 2023, an official date for the release of the third season of “Resident Alien” has not yet been disclosed. Nevertheless, there is a timeframe set for the much-anticipated season.

According to reports, viewers can anticipate the return of this captivating extraterrestrial series either in the later part of summer or the early stages of autumn in 2023.

It’s important to acknowledge that the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike in 2023 holds the potential to influence the release schedule for the third season of “Resident Alien,” as a number of scripted projects are projected to be halted during the strike.

Nonetheless, it is projected that the completed episodes of “Resident Alien” will remain unaffected by the strike. These episodes are still scheduled to premiere as originally planned in the late summer or early fall of 2023.

The inaugural season of “Resident Alien” garnered favorable reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the season has received an 83% approval rating, with an average score of 7.5/10 derived from 22 reviews.

Continuing from where Season 2 concluded, Harry Vanderspeigle has taken steps to secure the safety of the hybrid alien child, whom he named Bridget, by relinquishing them to the Greys.

Despite his decision, Harry couldn’t bring himself to abandon his friends on Earth to the mercy of the Greys’ destructive intentions. Instead, he made the choice to remain and dedicate his efforts to preventing Earth’s annihilation.

In the last glimpse of Harry, he aligned forces with General McCallister (Linda Hamilton), the enigmatic and ruthless military figure who had been pursuing him.

Cast images from “Resident Alien” Season 3 validate that Harry and McCallister will collaborate to formulate a strategy against their mutual adversary.

Simultaneously, the series will continue to delve into the lives of Patience’s inhabitants. Towards the conclusion of Season 2, Sheriff Thompson (Corey Reynolds) was interviewing the former government agent Joseph Rainer (Enver Gjokaj) for a deputy sheriff position, unaware of Rainer’s involvement in the death of Peter Bach (Terry O’Quinn), an incident that took place while Harry was rescuing Bridget from a government facility in Wyoming.

Rainer cryptically hints at his proficiency in maintaining order. With the recent revelation to some Patience residents that Harry is indeed an extraterrestrial, it’s plausible that Joseph will pose a significant challenge in Season 3.

While it’s too soon to definitively forecast the trajectory of “Resident Alien,” speculation is circulating regarding the potential culmination of the series after its third season.

This speculation stems from Syfy’s choice to truncate the episode count from 12 to 8 for the forthcoming third season.

The initial set of eight episodes, broadcast earlier in 2022, amassed an average viewership surpassing one million per episode. This favorable reception prompted Syfy to commission a 12-episode third season in July 2022.

However, the latter portion of Season 2 experienced a notable downturn in viewership, with only 0.5 million viewers per episode, nearly half of the viewership from the initial part.

This decrease in viewership likely played a significant role in the decision to reduce the episode count for the third season.

It’s crucial to acknowledge that the destiny of the series post the third season remains uncertain. Should the third season fare well in terms of performance and receive a positive reception, there remains a potential avenue for the show to carry on with a fourth season.
