The last 2 or 3 years have turned out to be a blessing for many anime series that got renewed. However, there are still many anime series that didn’t get announced officially. One of them is Kakegurui Season 3, one of the most awaited Japanese anime series. Will 2021 be any different?
Written by Homura Kawamoto, Kakegurui is a well known Japanese anime series based on a manga series of the same name. It is illustrated by Toru Naomura, while the adaption of the anime was handled by MAPPA. The show is among the best anime series streaming on Netflix.
The first season of Kakegurui was released in September 2017 followed by Season 2 released in 2019 and it ran from January to March 2019. Netflix has the streaming license for this series from outside Japan. Two light novels were also released inspired by the same manga series in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Furthermore, a live-action drama adaptation was also released in Japan in 2018 followed by a second season released in April 2019. The series is quite popular and now fans await the arrival of Kakegurui Season 3.
When is Kakegurui season 3 releasing?
At present, there are no official statements made regarding the release of Kakegurui season 3. The renewal status of Kakegurui season 3 still remains unknown to the fans. Both Netflix and MAPPA have chosen to remain silent on this matter. However, we all know that Netflix only have the streaming license apart from Japan and it has nothing to do with the renewal of the series(Kakegurui Characters).
In the end, it’s going to be MAPPA and Japanese networks’ choice whether to renew the series or not. Will they choose to move forward with the series or end it here? For now, let’s just hope that they will.
Plus, we shouldn’t ignore the current epidemic the world is facing. It’s safe to assume that the plans of renewing the series got postpone by the rise of COVID-19. Although the production might not be completely closed, it might have been hindered down because of the lockdown imposed due to COVID-19. It was anticipated that Kakegurui season 3 will most likely air in 2021 but looking at the current situation, it’s best to assume that the show has been pushed back and will release in 2021 or 2022.
What is the story of Kakegurui so far?
The series is set at Hyakkaou Private Academy, a high-class elite school where the children of Japan’s most wealthy and powerful people go to study. Though these are not ordinary students, some of them are future leaders and professionals.
However, this school is not like other schools. Here the students are not ranked based on their academic achievement or athletic abilities, but rather by a very bizarre sport that is gambling.
The hierarchy of the student body is directly linked to their financial offering to the student council which stoke up a complicated gambling structure where students willingly gamble their fortune against each other after class. The winners gain popularity, stature and make connections, while those who lose are in debt and have to become slaves of the rest of the student body and then called Pets, nicknamed as a Dog or Cat depending on the gender of the person. They also have to wear choker like tags around their necks.
Moreover, those who failed to clear their debts by the end of school receives a life schedule that controls the rest of their lives as they are forced to pay the debts with their lives.
The show’s main protagonist, Yumeko Jabami is a pretty, joyful and intelligent girl who is recently transferred to Hyakkaou Private Academy in her second year. Regardless of that, she has a secret of her own that nobody at Hyakkaou knows about. She is an obsessive gambler who gambles just because she gets a kick out of it, while the rest of the students gamble to gain popularity or money.
Not caring about the rules or logic, Yumeko is gifted with an exceptional observation to see right through gamble trickeries that lead to her instantly derange the entire hierarchy of the school. This brings the spotlight on her and she grabs the attention of the student council, more specifically, the attention of it’s president, Kirari Momobami, who instantly takes an interest in Yumeko.
Is there any update on Kakegurui Season 3?
So far there have been no updates on the making of Kakegurui Season 3. The makers haven’t released an official statement, trailer or poster yet. It has been more than a year since the end of season 2 and fans are excitedly waiting for any sort of indication towards the renewal of the series but there has been none.
