Mahershala Ali starrer blade reboot has reportedly found its director. According to the sources, MCU has hired Bassam Tariq to direct the upcoming project. Mahershala Ali blade first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1973 as a side character in the tomb of Dracula. Later on, the marvel comic character gained his solo series in the next year. Mahershala Ali blade is a half-vampire who possesses all the strengths and abilities of a vampire but is immune to any of their weaknesses.
MCU’s Blade Adaptation Will Raise The Bar
Given his ability to walk free in the daylight, he is called the daywalker by the vampires he fights. In 2012, the rights to the blade character retreated to Marvel Studios after a trilogy of successful films from new lines featuring Wesley Snipes in the early 2000s. In 2019 Marvel Studios announced the casting of Mahershala Ali for the titular superhero in the upcoming reboot of the franchise.
Mahershala Ali’s Casting For Blade
This isn’t the first time that Mahershala Ali will be playing a role in the MCU; he also portrayed the villain cottonmouth in Netflix’s Luke Cage for a brief period. A few months ago, Watchmen writers Stacy Osei-Kuffour was hired for writing the script for the blade reboot, which reportedly allowed Marvel Studios to narrow down their long list of potential directors.
MCU’s Blade Finally Got A Director
According to the deadline, a director has been hired for the upcoming marvel project, and he is none other than Bassam Tariq, who is best known for directing mogul Mowgli in 2020. If this news is true, then it will make Tariq the 4th person of color to direct an MCU film after Ryan coogler in Black Panther, Chloe Zhao in Eternals and Nia Dacosta in the Marvels. Although Marvel Studios has not confirmed the news yet, this will correspond with the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige’s ambition to diversify both the cast and crew of the Marvel films.
At first, Marvel Studios was planning to hire a writer-director for the film but later separated the two roles. This will most likely be an excellent decision considering what the combined talent of Tariq and Osei will bring to the movie. Even though Tariq has directed only one major film, his knack for identifying young talent and snag them for his projects is remarkably similar to Dacosta’s hiring to direct the Captain Marvel chapter 2.
Ever since Marvel Studios announced the blade, fans have been eager to find out who will follow the footsteps of snipe and how the character will be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The casting of Mahershala Ali as blade got a very positive reaction from the fans. However, how he fits into the role is still unseen.
We hope to receive a proper confirmation from Marvel Studios about hiring the director of blade very soon. Soon more details about Mahershala Ali blade will be revealed, and fans will get a glimpse of what to expect from the anticipated Daywalker of MCU.
