GAME OF THRONES JON SNOW SEQUEL IN DEVELOPMENT: SHOULD WE BE EXCITED?

Game of Thrones sequel is under development as Kit Harrington set to reprise his role as Jon Snow, but fans remain skeptical about its release.

Oh boy, it seems HBO isn’t finished with the Game of Thrones, and according to sources, a Jon Snow sequel is next in line.

On 16th June 2022, an article from Hollywood Reporter states that. Game of Thrones ‘Jon Snow’ sequel starring Kit Harrington is in early development stages. It goes on to say further that there was no response from Harrington or his representatives about the new Game of Thrones show.

Game of Thrones concluded its series with Season 8 ending on 19th May 2019, as many significant characters met their fate. Three years later, a Jon Snow sequel series has been announced, and it has excited some fans.

But before anyone gets overexcited, a few things need to be looked into, as the announcement in the Hollywood Reporter doesn’t convey the whole story.

Let’s take a look at Everything you need to know about the new Game of Thrones Jon Snow sequel so that you can make your mind up about its release.

Unfortunately, there is no source material for the Game of Thrones Jon Snow Sequel.

Till now, all the TV series content has been adapted from the writings of George R. R. Martin. But the sequel will have no such facility, which would mean the plot will solely be based on the creator s’ discretion and the writer’s creative imagination.

This could go either way, considering, as of now, we don’t know who will be the show’s director.

The book fans have always been critical of not sticking to the source material or removing essential details of the book. So, we shall wait and see how the creators do without any source material to refer from for the sequel.

It’s the worst secret that GRRM didn’t have the best relationship with creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. He has also slammed fans as being toxic for wanting Game of Thrones Season 8 to be remade after a petition received more than 1.5 million signatures.

It’s difficult to fathom that GMMR will accept the release of the sequel considering there is no source material written by him. Of course, he would not want any character changes without his approval.

But there is hope since Warner Bros and HBO Max will merge into one streaming platform, which could invite new creators to make the sequel.

HBO does have the rights to Game of Thrones, so maybe GRRM will be able to work together for the new Game of Thrones show with some new writers.

CAN WE REALLY BELIEVE JAMES HIBBERD?

Suppose you are wondering who James Hibberd is. In that case, he is the article’s author and the editor in large of the Hollywood Reporter. He is also cited as the unofficial spokesperson for David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. So why the doubts about his credentials?

Well, for starters, back in January 2021, he mentioned a prequel to Robert s’ Rebellion which turned out to be false. In fact, GRRM later confirmed that a stage play is under development portraying the great Tourney at Harrenhall. This major incident kicks off Robert s’ Rebellion.

A few months later, Hibberd admitted on a French fan site that he mistook the stage play for a prequel of Robert s’ Rebellion.

Many fans find his overall personality irksome, as seen at San Diego Comic-Con, where he moderated the GOT panel and did not open it up to ask any Q and A from the fans. To be fair he did later clarify, it was due to time constraint impacted by unplanned factors.

We leave trusting James Hibberd upon your own judgment.

The article claims that Kit Harrington will reprise his role as Jon Snow, and we have no doubt that no one else can play that role better than him.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Kit Harrington said that he will never want to play a hero like Jon Snow again. Kit said, “Would I want to go back and do more? Not on your life,” Harington told the BBC.

Kit Harrington is already committed to the MCU TV series Eternals and was seen as the Black Knight. Needless, it has been a forgetful one, and if HBO throws a lot of money, Kit might just come back.

Will he return as Jon Snow in the sequel? Only time will tell?

WHAT WILL BE THE PLOT FOR GAME OF THRONES JON SNOW SEQUEL?

WHAT WILL BE THE PLOT FOR GAME OF THRONES JON SNOW SEQUEL

The article in the Hollywood Reporter states that the sequel will open doors for surviving characters such as Arya Stark, Brienne of Tarth and Sansa Stark.

Without any source material is difficult to tell how the plot will pan out in the sequel but lets throw out some ideas on what possible could happen in the seque

For, Jon Snow game of thrones season 8 finale saw him banished to the Night s’ watch by his now King, Bran. If the sequel does happen, we can expect Jon s’ journey beyond the wall to continue. With the white walkers perished, it will be interesting to know who the new forces of evil will be that Jon Snow would fight.

Arya, in the final episode of season 8, decides to explore the unknown lands of Westeros. What she finds and how she faces them could be her storyline.

Winterfell has gone massive changes since the death of Ned Stark. Sansa Stark is the queen in the north, and the sequel would probably have her rebuilding Winterfell and ruling it peacefully.

Again, these are just fanfiction and speculation. What the actual plot is, no one knows. If the sequel is in development, we hope to receive some news on the cast and crew, which could make the plot clearer.

The article in Hollywood Reporter also mentions that there is currently seven Game of thrones projects planned in addition to House of the Dragons. The prequels include 1000 ships (Nymeria), 9 Voyages (Sea Snake) and Dunk and Eggs.

Some fans feel the Jon Snow sequel series announcement is a marketing gimmick to get the fans back to watch the prequel, House of the Dragons, which premiers on 21st August 2022.

House of Dragons is set 300 years before Game of Thrones, and it’s about the Targaryen civil war, also called the Dance of the Dragons.

Although we don’t feel so, HBO or GRRM would not want any negative shade put on their golden goose of Game of Thrones by such hapless PR tactics.

Additionally, there are three animated prequels set in the Golden Empire of Yi Ti, also written by GRRM.

The question is straightforward, but the answer isn’t and could be subjective, so we need to deep dive into all the possible details.

So firstly, Game of Thrones Season 8 created a lot of controversies, especially how the final episode, “Iron Throne”, and the whole series ended. I mean, just look at the table of season-wise ratings; season 8 is rated the lowest at 6.33 on IMDB. A considerable drop from the past seven seasons.

Season 28.96
Season 39.05
Season 49.31
Season 58.83

Fans of the show expressed their displeasure mainly towards the directors David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The finale felt rushed, and the death of some favourite fan characters was done terribly. Hence, no love is lost between the fans and the creators of the show.

The fandom behind Game of Thrones is massive, and come what, the fans will definitely like to see the old cast back. Especially Jon Snow, who had a torrid time in Season 8 as his character development felt staggered and confused at times.

Winterfell is an iconic place in the Game of Thrones universe; revisiting it will be a big draw. Suppose the article in the Hollywood Reporter is indeed accurate. In that case, the Starks will make a return, who are the strongest House.

While some fans may be happy hearing the news of a sequel, the final season left a bad taste in the mouth of the majority. This may not be a deciding factor in the end. Still, the creators need to note the mood and feelings of their viewers before releasing any sequel.
