BREAKING NEWS – Mortal Kombat 2 Is A Go! Jeremy Slater Working on Sequel’s Script
New Line Cinema and Warner Bros are returning with a fighting stance on a sequel to Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2.
Mortal Kombat, released in April 2021, is a fictional movie focused on martial arts. The movie’s foundation is Mortal Kombat’s video games and a reboot of the American Mortal Kombat film series.
New Line hires Jeremy Slater, the writer of Marvel’s Moon Knight and The Umbrella Academy Series, to write the script for the sequel of Mortal Kombat. The famous video games series is getting another chance to become a live-action film franchise.
Mortal Kombat, reboot, came after American Mortal Kombat Series, which were released in the 90s, included only two films. Mortal Kombat 2021 included the characters Cole Young, played by Lewis Tan, Sonya Blade, played by Jessica McNamee, Kano, played by Josh Lawson, and other fighters protecting the Earth from evil.
Along with the premiere, Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack 2, a video game, was released by Warner Bros, released in 2020 on the platforms of PS4 and PS5.
Mortal Kombat 2021, by Warner Bros, released on two platforms, HBO Max and in theatres. As in both the platforms, the premiere was released on the same day, its performance at the box office wasn’t that impressive. However, because of the release of Mortal Kombat, it hyped the hopes of the audience expecting the work on Mortal Kombat 2 too soon.
The end of Mortal Kombat has already set up the concept of what would happen in Mortal Kombat 2 if its sequel were to be released. But there was no information regarding anything about its sequel.
Mortal Kombat 2 Is A Go!
An updated report from Deadline announced official that Mortal Kombat is actually happening. The New Line Cinema and Warner Bros are taking the required steps to make Mortal Kombat 2 happen, as they hired Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight and The Umbrella Academy’s Writer) to write the script of Mortal Kombat 2.
It should be noted that no other deals are done for the sequel apart from the hiring of Jeremy for the scriptwriting. The Mortal Kombat 2 characters and the director are not announced yet because director Simon McQuoid, and cast and crew members from Mortal Kombat has yet to agree on their return in the sequel. Along with that, Mortal Kombat 2 released date isn’t set either.
According to the end of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2 narrative should focus on following Cole Young along with others because they hire new people as Champions of Earth, one of which is Jonny Cage.
Although the first film, Mortal Kombat, didn’t include as many fighting tournaments as expected by the audience, but the sequel should focus on it because Shang Tsung is sending his army to take over Earth. This might hint at the involvement of Noob Saboit, aka Sub-Zero’s return in the sequel.
Well, Jeremy Slater, hired by Warner Bros and New Line, controls everything and handles the connection between the storylines. With the process of scriptwriting started by hiring Jeremy, Mortal Kombat 2 is moving forward. And with it, the expectations of its release might be in 2023 or 2024.
With not so impressive box office performance of Mortal Kombat, but became famous on HBO Max because of the global pandemic, there is a possibility that the sequel, Mortal Kombat 2, might be a high-profile exclusive movie. In any possibility, the hiring of Jeremy Slater might make the sequel have a stronger reception than the first part.
