The Witcher Season 3: Supporting Character Problem Needs to be Fixed
The Witcher Season 3 should do something good for its supporting characters like Vesemir and Jaskier, who are interesting and have similar energy as the main ones.
The Witcher Series was released on Netflix in 2019, with the first season setting up the plot and introducing interesting characters. The Witcher Season 2 was released in 2021 after a long wait that was inevitable because of the global pandemic. Almost everyone has binge-watched the whole of Netflix’ Witcher, and now the fans have great expectations from the witcher season 3.
The Witcher Season 3 has high expectations to live upto, so this season should try to fix up the problem of supporting characters. The fans’ expectations want it to be more successful like the witcher season 1 and 2 because the fan base includes the witcher books fans and the witcher video games fans.
The Witcher Season 3 release date hasn’t been announced yet, and the showrunner stated that it’s still under process. In Season 3, fans wish to see the side characters given proper importance and not just sidelined like in season 2.
The solution to the sideline characters would be to give them equal character development like Geralt of Rivia, the Witcher (Henry Cavill), Princess Cirilla of Cintra, Ciri (Freya Allan), and Yennefer of Vengerberg, a powerful mage (Anya Chalotra). The supporting characters in Netflix’s Witcher are Nivellen (Kristofer Hivju), Vesemir (Kim Bodnia), Jaskier (Joey Batey), and many more, who are as much part of the Continent as the main characters.
Hence, The Witcher Season 3 should give equal time to the supporting characters on screen and not just sideline them to highlight the role of leading actors. However, there is no argument on the attention given to the trio (Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri), but the witcher season 3 will become more captivating if all the characters are given equal screen time or importance.
The result of giving equal importance to the supporting characters will only benefit the series, which will lead to the viewers diving more into the world of the Witcher series, and they’ll connect better to the story and its characters.
The Witcher Season 3 – Roles of Supporting Characters
It would be interesting if, in the Witcher Season 3, Jaskier would tell all the feelings he had when Geralt left or the things he did without him. It will give another angel to the Jaskier, a loveable character, instead of just a constant frustration to Geralt because the viewers didn’t see the change from Jaskier’s perspective, which is a problem.
Besides Jaskier, the Witchers in Kaer Morhen, the only family of Geralt, should be given some growth, as not enough information about their lifestyles or any other things were shared. The more focus on the other Witchers like Vesemir Lambert or Coen might make the fans fall in love with any of the Witcher characters, as they have with Geralt. Well, there is a hope that witcher season 3 might include Witchers and give them more focus.
The fans would agree that the upcoming season of the Witcher Series on Netflix could and should spend time on developing the side characters. If we compare the trio with the other characters, Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri are shown compelling, and however, the other characters are only exciting.
All the characters in the Witcher Series are equally important as the trio, and they all should be given as much importance, care, and recognition as Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer receive. The reason why the world enjoys series like Game of Thrones is because it did give equal attention and focus on the sideline characters as much as on the main ones.
The Witcher Series on Netflix should give equal importance to side characters as they are just as interesting as the trio. The characters like Tissaia De Vries (MyAnna Buring), Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu), Fringilla (Mimi Ndiweni), and Francesca (Mecia Simson) does grab the attention of a lot of viewers, and they would like to know more about them.
It will be a win-win situation for Netflix’s Witcher Series to portray well-developed side characters, as the audience would be able to better reflect on the whole narrative and might engage more viewers. So for the better future of the Witcher Series, the Witcher Season 3 must fix the problem of its supporting characters.
