WHY ON MY BLOCK SEASON 5 WON’T HAPPEN

The most credible reason for not renewing is plot-wise; there was nothing left to be explored as On My Block characters received a convincing end on my Block.

In the On My Block season 4, there were already rumors about a character’s death, as there weren’t any since the first season. The final season was, of course, going to be the culmination of the plotline, and one could not expect all endings to be sweet.

We start with Oscar, convinced of impending doom on Cesar and suggests he get away to Portland. But Cesar stoically denies it and stays put.

Later we find out that Cesar has been jailed, but Oscar bails him out, which angers Cesar. The gang decides Cesar isn’t fit to lead and asks him to step down as the ring leader.

Cesar finally realizes the danger to his life after getting cornered by another gang and agrees to move to Portland to stay alive.

Jasmine, Ruby, Jamal, and Sierra are going to prom, where the King and Queen will be decided. Unexpectedly, Ruby wins and dances with Jasmine on the stage. Cesar appreciates Jamal for trusting him, as he wouldn’t have made it without him.

The series finale was a perfect ending for each story arc despite the death of Oscar. All in all, on my Block is a series that teaches the importance of friendship and life experiences that eventually shape one’s personality in later years.

The contrasting upbringing and choices of the characters indicate mistakes that each of us makes and how sometimes we need a friendly hand to pull through tough times.
