Platinum End Season 2: Renewed or Cancelled + Release Date Predictions
Platinum End Season 2, will it ever happen?
Death Note is arguably one of the best anime series of all time, and mangaka Tsugumi Ohba received worldwide acclamation for his work.
So, when it was announced that his latest manga titled Platinum End is greenlit for an anime adaption, fans were incredibly excited to see it on the small screens.
The story follows an orphan high schooler Mirai Kakehashi who, after his parents’ death, comes to live with his abusive aunt and uncle.
Mirai endures mental anguish and despair each day, which eventually catches up to him as he finally decides to take his life to end the suffering.
On the day of his middle school graduation, Mirai throws himself off an edge of a precipice, but amidst his fall, he enters a trance state where he meets a guardian angel, Nasse.
Nasse grants him three magical abilities, i.e., the ability to fly, a white arrow that allows the user to kill anyone it hits instantly, and a red arrow that allows the user to make whoever it hits fall in love with them for 33 days, though not if the target is already under the influence of another user’s red arrow.
Mirai also learns from Nasse that his aunt and uncle were jealous of his parents and ultimately were responsible for their demise.
Empowered by the angel s’ abilities, Mirai seeks revenge and bestows justice on the perpetrators.
Also, Nasse informs him of the upcoming retirement of God in the next 999 days, and he is in line to take the position by participating in a contest whose outcome will decide the next God.
Mirai is a competition against 12 other individuals, of which some will go to any lengths to win the contest.
To combat these ruthless killers, Mirai forms an alliance with several candidates who share his goal, which is to win the contest without killing any other competitors.
Can the once sad life of Mirai, which has now turned into a deadly competition, survive as he tries to protect his happiness is the central plot of the show.

WHAT IS THE PLATINUM END SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE?
Platinum End Season one aired from 8th October 2021 to 25th March 2022 for 24 episodes.
As of writing, there is no update from studio Signal MD on the renewal of Platinum End Season 2.
SEASON | RELEASE DATE |
Platinum End Season 1 | 8th October 2021 |
Platinum End Season 2 | Yet to be Announced |
Production studios consider various financial and commercial metrics before announcing a renewal.
As mentioned earlier, Platinum End Season one was underwhelming, to say the least. The series was hyped up massively as this anime came from the brilliant mind of Tsugumi Ohba, the same person who gave us Death Note.
Some reviewers even called the series ‘Mirai Nikki with boring characters with no story going for it.’
However, the expectations turned out to be its downfall as Platinum End, albeit not bad, left many fans of Tsugumi Ohba disappointed with its dull characters and questionable storylines.
While the reviews and ratings may not warrant a renewal, a crucial factor that certifies it is the availability of source material.
Platinum End Season one exhausted all the available source material from the manga, which was already reported before the broadcast.
Additionally, the manga has also ended, which means there is no financial incentive for the creator and studio to produce any content related to Platinum End.
Hence, Platinum End Season 2 will not be happening, and fans should not hold their breath for any updates on the Platinum End Season 2 trailer or Platinum End Season 2 release date.
Maybe there could be a feature film in the future with, but even the scope of that happening is unlikely as studio Signal MD is not a big production house and has already got multiple projects lined up for 2023.
Platinum End Season 2 characters with new storylines could be a remote possibility if another studio picks it up, but considering the reviews of season one, it will be counterproductive.
