Red Guardian vs. Captain America: Which Marvel Super Soldier Is Stronger?

In the newly released Marvel movie Black Widow, a new super-soldier named Red Guardian was introduced(captain america). The Soviet Union created the Red Guardian, but how strong is he? Is he stronger than Captain America? It turns out Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes weren’t the only ones affected by the Supersoldier program.

Who is Red Guardian? How many other super soldiers are there aside from Captain America and Bucky?

 In the Falcon and The Winter Soldier, we saw some more vials of the Supersoldier serum, but luckily most of them were destroyed. Not only the Supersoldier serum vials were destroyed, but men who were injected with it to fight on behalf of the United States were defeated as well. Marvel’s Black Widow revealed that the former Soviet Union also developed their super-soldier serum to create a Captain America for themselves.

Fans’ first encounter with the Red Guardian, aka Alexie, wasn’t heroic or even remotely engaging as he appeared as a common man without his red suit. He was running from the local authorities in Ohio with his wife Melina and his adoptive daughters Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova.

At an early stage in the movie, Alexie confirms that he is in alliance with the evil General Dreykov, the creator and controller of the Red room. The Red room is a training institution where little girls are brought against their will, and then they are brainwashed and trained to become black widows. 

Who is the more robust super soldier between Captain America and Red Guardian?

Even though Alexie completed his mission successfully, Dreykov still sentenced him to a lifetime of jail. Despite his living arrangements, Alexie conserved his super-soldier strength throughout the two decades he spent in the jail and didn’t fail to show it off throughout the movie.

The Red Guardian is powerful as he moves up a steel trailer, completely breaks off another man’s wrist, and while he is breaking out of the prison, he easily rips off a door. However, after spending decades in prison, he seems a little out of shape, and it left him without much use for his abilities. Alexie most probably maintained only the basics of super soldier abilities.

On the other hand, Captain America spent most of his life working in the field. He has done everything from lifting a helicopter with a single hand to fighting against Thanos to save the universe. Captain America also proved himself worthy of lifting Thor’s hammer. In comparison, Red Guardian chooses to become a spy/undercover agent for Dreykov, which didn’t allow him to use his abilities to their full extent. Therefore, the Red Guardian is more than a little unpracticed, and if given a chance to fight against Captain America, we are sure Cap can defeat him in a heartbeat.

Externally, the Red Guardian may come across as strong as Captain America, but in Black Widow, he is painted as a spy instead of a warrior. We also learned that Red Guardian is pretty proud of his skills and enjoys bragging about his super-soldier powers and abilities. To be honest, the man is reliving his time where he put his super-soldier powers to good use.

In Marvel Comics, there was a moment when Captain America and Red Guardian fought together even though their relationship was somewhat competitive and the Red Guardian was drilled to exterminate Captain America. But when he is actually given a chance to fight against Captain Steve Rogers by the Soviet Union, he failed to defeat him. We think it’s enough to prove that Captain America is the stronger super soldier between the two.

Unfortunately, Captain America is no longer present in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the events of Avengers: Endgame; fans will never get to see these two fight against each other. However, John Walker, who took the Supersoldier serum and Red Guardian, may face each other at some point. We are sure Red Guardian won’t give up the opportunity to fight a former Captain America even if he’s not the original one.  

Black Widow didn’t give Red Guardian the chance to prove his worth, but hopefully, it isn’t the last time the Red Guardian appears in MCU as there is so much more to learn about his origin story and journey as a super-soldier.
