THOR LOVE & THUNDER : KEVIN FEIGE CASTED THE MID-CREDIT SCENE
Thor Love & Thunder mid-credit scenes s’ casting was done by Kevin Feige, says director Taika Waititi
The latest MCU film, Thor Love and Thunder, are on the trend now, with interesting behind the scene details coming out. This is the fourth film in the franchise, which eventually brings back fan favorite Chris Hemsworth as Thor.
Thor Love and Thunder also give the thunder god new allies to work with, which includes the like of Mighty Thor, Valkyrie, and Korg. Thor Love and Thunder had an extensive and popular cast, yet it wasn’t a smashing hit which is further evidenced by its IMDB rating of 6.9/10.
The movie also featured two credit scenes which have received the consensus agreement from the fandom for being the best part of the whole movie. Regardless of how the movie was received, we are here to talk about the casting of the mid-credit scene that had a surprising reveal from the film s’ directors’ Taika Waititi. Let’s check it, shall we?
WHO WAS CASTED IN THE MID-CREDITS SCENE?
Taika Waititi, in an interview with ET, revealed that it was Marvel Studio s’ president Kevin Feige who did the casting for Thor Love and Thunder’s mid-credits scene. Feige roped Brett Goldstein from Ted Lasso to play Hercules in the mid-credit scene.
Taika Waititi, who is a big Ted Lasso fan, spoke to ET and said:
“I can’t share much because you know that was all, Kevin. Kevin was like Hercules, how about we ask Brett? And you know Kevin yeah keeps his cards you know close to the chest so like I don’t want to like, where are you pushing this? What do you want? Where are you going to go with this Hercules character?”

Taika Waititi and Kevin Feige share a great personal working relationship. The Marvel President while not directly involved with the movie, he relays his creative feedback to the filmmaker regularly. On the other hand, Feige credits Taika for bringing out the “immature, young adolescent” quality in the Thor s’ character which we witnessed in Avenger s’ Endgame as as well.
THOR LOVE & THUNDER :WILL WE SEE HERCULES IN THE FUTURE?
In the Mid-credit scene, we see the Olympian King Zeus is still alive after being hit by his lightning bolt. He is treated by Zeusettes as he gets agitated by the fact that superheroes have replaced Gods.
At this point, we see the first mention of his son Hercules who Zeus tasks to kill Thor. Waititi is unsure about how Hercules fits in the scope of MCU and Thor in general as he says:
“And I don’t know if that’s to do with Thor, or if it’s to do with how that will develop,” says Waititi. He continues, “Because, obviously, Hercules, there’s a character from the books as well. And so, yeah, this will be interesting to see because Kevin, he’s the mastermind of all of these threads and how they’ll tie up and how they meet, mix and match. So, I’m curious to find out myself.”

Hercules makes his first appearance in the Marvel comics back in 1965’s issue Journey into Mystery Annual No. 1. Throughout the comics, he is shown as the antagonist version of Thor sharing the same heritage and godly powers. Despite of these attributes, Hercules is often banished by the Olympian King Zeus, for his lack of sensibility and various other indiscretions.
Kevin Feige has also indicated as to how difficult it is to get hold of Taika referring to his busy schedule. Speaking to The New York Times he said, “Even after shooting had wrapped on Love and Thunder, Feige reveals Watiti visited Hawaii for a few weeks to film Next Goal Wins.” Despite this, he clarifies that the director was always “sitting right next to us” when he was needed.
Currently, we can’t confirm the future of Hercules in the upcoming Thor films but worry not as if we have compiled a list of Hercules best appearances in the comics, check it out below:
TITLE | ISSUE |
“When Titans Clash” | Journey Into Mystery, 1952 (Annual 11) |
Hercules: Prince of Power | Vol.1 (1982) |
Hercules: Prince of Power | Vol. 2 (1984) |
Hercules: New Labors of Hercules | 2005 |
The Incredible Hercules | 2008 |
Hercules: Still Going Strong | 2016 |
If the creators do decide to include Hercules in the future, it would not be a bad idea to draw inspiration from the 1996 TV show, Mighty Thor. In season 1 Episode 11 “Enter Hercules”, Hercules arrives on Earth and takes and immediate liking to Thor s’ love Jane Foster leading to an enraged Thor fights Hercules all over New York City
Director Taika Waititi also was optimistic about the future of Hercules character as he added:
“It’s pretty exciting to start opening the world of Zeus, Hercules, and the Greek Gods.”
HOW DID FANS REACT TO HERCULES CAMEO?
To answer the question, we will let the director of the film tell you who says:
It was such a cool moment in the cinema where it played that people went nuts. They were so excited.”
Feige s’ suggestion ultimately worked out well, as the mid-credit scene involving Goldstein received appreciation and also some flak.
The criticism towards the Goldstein cameo was aimed at his lack of muscular body as Hercules is a hulking-jacked-up hero of Greek and Roman mythology. If and when Hercules is introduced back into the MCU, rest assured fans won’t accept the scrawny Goldstein as the God of Strength.
