As the work for the sequel of the 2018 Deadpool 2 movie starts, the writers for the franchise, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, discuss their experience of initially being sacked from their position. 

In an interview with The Playlist writers, Reese and Wernick speak about their experience of Deadpool 3 making. However, they were there to discuss the upcoming Netflix thriller Spiderhead. The writing duo talked about how the sequel project was initially replacing them with another writers. 

Deadpool 3, the MCU sequel, was initially being written by different writers. The duo opened up about this detail but did not say anything about the story or the prospective cast. They also expressed their gratitude and excitement at the same time for returning with the team of Deadpool.

“Yeah, that did happen. And look, it just came down the way it did, but we’re thrilled to be back is the bottom line. We couldn’t be happier where we are in the mad scientist lab creating fun stuff, and hopefully, we’ll get a movie out to you guys soon.”

Ryan Reynolds is returning as the lead of the Deadpool franchise, and it is the first movie for the franchise to be set in the timeline of the MCU after Disney acquired 21st Century Studios. Joining the team of Deadpool 3 is Leslie Uggams, playing the Merc with a Mouth’s former roommate Blind Al. 

While no other big announcements have been made so far about the movie, the statements of the writer duo suggest some significant changes were being considered.

Although developments and news about Deadpool 3 movie have been facing many problems, even before the studio announced the merger of Disney and Fox. After a while, the studio was ready to make a movie revolving around X-Force as the team was already introduced in the prequel, Deadpool 2. 

Reese and Wernick originally got the offerto start working on the script of Deadpool in MCU in 2019. The former CEOof DisneyBob Iger, said it would keep the R-rated aesthetic of the prequels while being set in the MCU.

Theplan to rehire Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick was shortly put on hold when Ryan Reynolds allegedly met with other writers to compile the Deadpool 3. The other writers wereBob’s Burgers duo Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin. It happened in late 2020,but they shifted back to the original writers of the first two movies. 

Fans were thrilled to hear the news that the team of writers are not changing; some authenticity in the script is necessary after all. Reese and Wernick have worked on the Zombieland movies, and there is no secret that they were successful, and fans love to watch their work. Zombieland takes a meta-approach to the Zombie genre.

The writers’ reaction to initially not being reconsidered for the Deadpool 3 was mild and did not disclose much of their emotions; a hint of disappointment to not being the producers’ first choice is valid.

Reese and Wernick, the duo, are returning to the team and franchise of Deadpool, that is for sure. But they are not the only ones; Ryan Reynolds is returning who plays the titular role. With them, the director Shawn Levy is set to come back to the making of the movie. 

Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy have worked together on successful projects like the Free Guy, a comedy and The Adam Project, a sci-fi Netflix original. Their past work together has left many speculating about the success of Deadpool 3. 

Although director Levy has confirmed the shoot of Deadpool 3, he said it is not likely to start filming until 2023. It may be because of his prior commitments, and fans are waiting for any update on the awaited sequel.
