Doctor Strange 2 May Not Release In China – Why?
A kiosk appeared in 20 minutes, the opening of Doctor Strange 2, the upcoming movie, which won’t be released in China.
2022’s most anticipated movie, Doctor Strange 2, will be released in a few days. The scriptwriting of Doctor Strange 2 was done by Michael Waldron, the creator of Loki, miniseries on Disney+. The director of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is Sam Raimi, who created the original Spider-Man trilogy casting Tobey Maguire.
The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will pick up from the events of the last blockbuster premiere, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was phase 3 of the multiverse. In No Way Home, due to some interruptions, a spell Doctor Strange was casting for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker went wrong, which opened up the multiverse. As a result, all the supervillains of Spider-Man came into Tom Holland’s Spider-Man universe, along with other Spider-Men. The villains include Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Sandman, Electro and Lizard.
While all the villains were doing a lot of damage to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man universe, all the Spider-Men from the other universes entered too. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of Spider-Men helped Tom Holland’s Spider-Man fight with all of them. And at the end, Doctor Strange rectifies the mistake and sends all of them back to their original universes. But, in one of the post-credits scenes, Doctor Strange was shown experiencing the consequences of his actions.
The Doctor Strange 2 premiere cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, Benedict Wong as Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, and a new character America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez going to debut in Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will not only cover the after events of No Way Home but also would explore what happened to Wanda after the ending of WandaVision, a miniseries released on Disney+.
Doctor Strange 2 Ban in China?
The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness release date is 6 April 2022, and as we come closer, new information about its release not happening in some of the countries is coming out. The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is banned in Gulf Countries as it contains LGBTQ+ content. The new character, America Chavez, which is going to be introduced in MCU, is a lesbian, because of which is banned in Gulf Countries.
The premiere of Doctor Strange 2 has been sent to the Chinese authorities to be reviewed, but it has yet to be approved for its release. It may be banned in China for the opening scene of a newspaper kiosk bearing the Chinese characters for Epoch Times, which is an international multi-language newspaper and Media Company which opposes the Chinese Communist Party. It is said that in the starting 20 minutes of the movie, the kiosk is barely noticeable.
Marvel Studios always tries its best for the films to be released all over the world, but some movies are unable to be released in some territories because of either censorship issues or international laws. If we talk about China, it has released very few Hollywood Films in the year 2021, which doesn’t include any of the Marvel films.
However, without the release of films in China, the movies perform well in theatres. And Doctor Strange 2 will do fine too. It does help with the box office numbers if it is approved to be released in all countries. But films, previous films like No Way Home has proven that MCU can rack up huge profits without its opening in some countries.
