Fruits Basket Season 4: Renewed Or Cancelled? + Spin-off Series Confirmed
Fruits Basket Season 4 is highly anticipated but does it have any chance of a comeback?
As a fervent enthusiast of Japanese anime, one must come to terms with the fact that gratifying experiences are often ephemeral. It has been a delightful fortnight for the ardent fans of Fruits Basket who have been following the show, which recently aired its final episode of season 3.
However, it is a universally accepted truth that all good things must eventually come to an end.
“Fruits Basket” is an anime series that falls under the romantic-supernatural genre. The show’s inspiration is drawn from the manga of the same name, which was both written and illustrated by Natsuki Takaya.
The narrative centers around Tohru Honda, a young girl who, upon encountering Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Sohma, discovers that the members of the Sohma family represent the 13 animals of the Chinese zodiac.
The family has been afflicted with a curse that manifests in their transformation into their respective animal forms during states of weakness, stress, or physical intimacy with individuals of the opposite gender who are not under the possession of a zodiac spirit.
Tohru acquaints herself with the difficulties and distress experienced by the troubled members of the Sohma family and, through her benevolent and affectionate disposition, endeavors to ameliorate their psychological scars.
As Tohru delves deeper into understanding the enigmatic Sohma family, including Yuki and Kyo, she gains insight into her own character and the depth of affection others have for her.
Can she break the curse of the Sohma family while maintaining and learning their secrets is the central plot of the show?

Season | Episodes | Originally aired |

As of writing, there is no update from the creators or author on a renewal for Fruit Basket season 4, but we can confirm the series will not renew for a fourth season.
There are multiple factors that contributed to the non-renewal of Fruits Basket. In order to ascertain the feasibility of a new season, it’s necessary to examine each of these factors.
Firstly, the creators had already indirectly told the viewers about the third season being the final installment.
Fruits Basket Season 3 was titled “Fruits Basket: The Final,” which was a significant indication of the series’ conclusion.
Secondly, the manga has been completely adapted by the anime, which leaves no source material for a potential fourth season. The story has been completed, and it won’t be advisable to go back to untie finished endings.
Finally, creators look at consumer metrics such as sales and popularity before renewing for a new season. The revenue streams will decrease with the manga already completed, and the show fully adapted.
Unfortunately, looking at all these factors, it’s implausible for renewal and even more improbable for the Fruits Basket season 4 release date.
FRUITS BASKET SPIN-OFF SERIES ANNOUNCED
There is a possibility for the show’s enthusiasts to witness the exploration of additional manga materials that have not been presented in anime form. The creators have considered the option of introducing a new entry to cater to the interests of the fans.
It has been officially announced that a spin-off series of the show ‘Fruits Basket’ titled ‘Fruits Basket: Prelude’ will be released following the end of the third and final season.
The upcoming Fruits Basket -prelude- installment is set to showcase the backstory between Kyoko and Katsuya, played by Miyuki Sawashiro and Yoshimasa Hosoya, respectively. This segment will delve into the untold narrative of how Tohru’s parents met Kyoko and Katsuya, which was not included in the anime series.
This special hit the theatres in Japan starting on 18th February 2022, and you can check out the trailer below:
FRUITS BASKET SEASON 4 PLOT
Fruits Basket season 3 s’ final episode saw Kazuma and Saki talk about how someday everyone will move on from Akito’s trauma.
During a phone conversation, Arisa expressed her readiness to be with Kureno when the appropriate time comes. Meanwhile, Akito had a conversation with Shigure, expressing gratitude for the newfound friendship with Tohru.
During a conversation between Yuki and Tohru, Yuki expresses his gratitude towards her for being a positive influence in his life, akin to a maternal figure. He also expresses his appreciation for the changes she brought about in the lives of those around her.
A glimpse of the future reveals that Tohru has married Kyo and has a grandchild.
While the series ends perfectly without any loose ends, we presume life goes on for the Soumas and the other characters as they start a new chapter in their lives.
