High School DxD season 5: Will it Happen? + Potential Release Date
High School DxD season 5, there still is a chance!
Few animes are timeless and often considered a pioneer in their genre, which, despite ending many years ago, are always in demand.
One such series that fans still fondly remember and want back on the small screens is the anime adaption of Ichiei Ishibumi s’ light novel, High School DxD.
The premise is set in a girls school, Kuoh Academy, which recently has turned co-ed; however, the biggest secret about the school is its population.
Unbeknownst to the general populace, Kuoh Academy boasts an atypical student body that includes individuals belonging to the angelic, demonic, and fallen angelic races.
The story follows Issei Hyodo, a perverted second year student who lives an ordinary albeit lecherous life.
After a regular school day, Issei is asked by a girl named Yuma Amano to a date, which he gleefully obliges.
But after the date, when they reach a local park, he is shocked by Yuma s’ request as she asks to die for her.
In the given scenario, a character unveils herself as a fallen angel and attempts to take the life of another character. However, the latter is resuscitated by a student in their third year of study, Rias Gremory.
Issei awakens the following morning, under the impression that the events that transpired the previous day were nothing more than a figment of his imagination.
Following a recent altercation with a fallen angel, the individual in question awakens to find Rias present in their room, unclothed.
In a disclosure to Issei, Rias, a devil, reveals that due to his demise caused by Yuuma, she has reincarnated him as a devil. In the act of doing so, he has become her trusted servant.
Issei is tasked with the challenging responsibility of developing the necessary skills for self-preservation in a world marked by the violent coexistence of angels and devils.

Production Studios consider various financial and commercial metrics before announcing a renewal.
As mentioned earlier, High School DxD has been a massive success since its debut, as many believe it to be a kick-starter to the supernatural harem genre.
Take away the usual cliches and tropes associated with the genre, Highschool DXD is an interesting watch due to its solid raft of characters.
According to the latest financial report, the light novel series High School DxD has emerged as the sixth best-selling series in Japan for the year 2012, with a total sales figure of 654,224 units.
As per the data shared by Oricon, High School DxD garnered a whopping 346,173 copies sale in 2013. The English version of the debut manga volume secured the second position on the New York Times best-seller list.
The series continued to receive significant acclaim, as the first 25 volumes sold a staggering 4 million copies as of March 20, 2018.
So, if the reviews, ratings, and sales have been largely positive, why hasn’t the series been renewed for High School DxD season 5?
The answer has many streams to it, with the first being the change in studio, which happened after the third season.
The first three seasons were produced by TNK, and three years after its conclusion, studio Passione took up the fourth season.
Now, the fourth season received a lot of flak for its animation style as fans were used to graphics by TNK, which is usual when there is a swap in production studios.
Speaking with Monsters and Critics, the producer for the series, Satoshi Motonaga, revealed that the staff behind the anime series wanted to have a fresh take going into the fourth season in order to boost the series and help give it attention from old and new fans alike.
Motonaga revealed that with the shift in new production studio, Passione, he wanted High School DxD to have a fresh face to help it stand out in today’s market compared to when the first three seasons were produced,
We are currently facing a challenge of sustaining our series in this market and attracting new audiences to it. In order to add a fresh perspective, we have considered transitioning to a new animation studio. This move is intended to revitalize the series and bring in new viewers.
In further explanation, Motonaga disclosed that the new character designs were a natural continuation of their fresh approach. He explained that often animation studios have their character designs and interpretations associated with their producers. As the team shifts to a new studio, it was a great opportunity to revisit the character design and take advantage of the chance to create something new.
The decision to modify the character designs was a challenging one, given their widespread popularity. However, the new animation studio was keen on reassessing the characters themselves to develop a fresh perspective.
There was a need for a change in the studio due to certain liberties that TNK took while adapting the source material. As a result, Ishibumi requested a new studio for the project to ensure a more faithful adaptation of the material.
In order to maintain accuracy and consistency with the source material, Ishibumi required the Passione staff to read nearly all of the light novels during the production of this season. Furthermore, he advised them against taking any creative liberties with the content, as was the case with TNK’s adaptation. This ensured that the adaptation was faithful to the original work and provided a cohesive viewing experience for the audience.
Furthermore, Study Passione is not exactly a massive production house. As a result, it’s only able to produce a maximum of two animes per year, and currently, two or three projects are scheduled for future release.
The good news is there is plenty of source material available to produce High School DxD season 5, as the first four seasons only adapted ten out of the available 25 volumes.
Considering it’s been more than five years, it’s highly unlikely that studio Passione will renew for High School DxD Season 5.
However, its not to say other studios may not be open to pick up for the fifth seasons as if leaks are to be believed, studio Bind are working on High School DxD Season 5 with character designs similar to the first three seasons.
While an official High School DxD season 5 trailer and the High School DxD season 5 release date hasnt been revealed, the studio is targetting for a Spring 2024 premier.
Note: Leaks and Rumours should to be taken with a pinch of salt as its not an coming from any official sources.
