KENGAN ASHURA SEASON 3 CONFIRMED + POSSIBLE RELEASE DATE [2023]

Kengan Ashura season 3 has been officially confirmed by Netflix; are you ready fighters?

 Netflix s’ attempt to expand its horizon in the anime scene has been progressive, to say the least. The popular Action, Adventure, and Fantasy have found their way on the streaming site but also the Fighting genre has now got a welcome addition in form of Kengan Ashura.

Kengan Ashura is a popular anime series that follows the story of businessmen in the Edo period of Japan who showcase their wealth and influence through the spectacle of gladiator battles. This anime is based on the manga created by Yabako Sandrovich and illustrated by Daromeon.

Kengan roughly translated as ‘To wish upon a fist’ is essentially how transactions happen in this time period. The violent nature of battles and the usurper s’ reward is a huge draw for both the fighters and the sponsors.

The plot follows the businessman Yamashita Kazuo who works in the sales department of the Nogi Group. One day Kazuo witness Tokita Ohma beating the larger fighter Komada Shigeru in a Kengan street fight.

The following day Nogi s’ CEO calls Kazuo in and tasks him to be the manager of (you guessed it) Tokita Ohma, who will be the new representative of the Nogi Group for the Kengan Association.

Tokita Ohma aka Ashura is also entered into the Kengan Annihilation Tournament whose winner will be the next CEO of the Kengan Association, a prestigious position of power and respect.

How Ohma uses his power to win the tournament while battling his past demons is the central plot of the show. 

Kengan Ashura was ranked 4th on the Top 10 Netflix’s Most Watched Anime in Japan in 2019.

After the completion of the second season, fans have been demanding Kengan Ashura season 3. Well, there are not be disappointed as Netflix has some good news for the third season, let’s check it out.

WHAT IS THE RELEASE DATE FOR KENGAN ASHURA SEASON 3?

Kengan Ashura has completed two seasons so far; the first season aired on 31st January 2019 and the second season was released on 31st October 2019 in one go with 12 episodes each.

On 23rd March 2022, Netflix announced on Twitter, that Kegan Ashura will return and has officially been renewed.

The caption of the tweet after translation reads 

“In the sequel to the series, even the final match of the Kengan Ashura Tournament, which is the completion of the original story, is drawn! What kind of battle will you fight with the many fighters who stand in front of the royal horse?”Stay tuned for more news!

It has taken more than two years for Netflix to announce a return, while the show is renewed for a third season or part 3, there was no mention of a Kengan Ashura season 3 release date. 

Considering development and production take on average one full year, we can expect Kengan Ashura’s season 3 release to be late 2023 or early 2024.

UPDATE: Kengan Ashura Season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix next year.The announcement came alongside a new visual poster for the anime, showing off series protagonist Ohma Tokita with the release date as 2023.

KENGAN ASHURA MANGA CATCHUP

Kengan Ashura manga is written by Yabako Sandrovich and illustrated by Daromeon. It began serialization on the MangaONE app from 18th April 2012 to 9th August 2018.

The manga has collected 236 chapters in 27 volumes and as of writing the manga has been completed with the last volume released on 19th February 2019.

A sequel titled Kengan Omega is still ongoing which tells the story two years after the completion of the original series. There are 10 volumes in the spin-off manga and the first issue came out on the 19th of February 2019.

The first two seasons adapted 17 volumes or 136 chapters from the manga hence 10 volumes or 100 chapters are still left as source material. Kengan Ashura manga has sold over 1.5 million copies and volume 27 was ranked 40th on the Japanese Comic Ranking, February 18-24 with 18686 copies sold.

Kengan Ashura is rated 8.3/10 and ranked #282 with 46k members on MyAnimeList.

KENGAN ASHURA SEASON 3 PLOT

The concluding episode of the second season of Kengan Ashura, titled “Father and Son,” was marked by a significant number of instances of rule-bending and behind-the-scenes maneuvering both inside and outside the arena.

Meguro experiences a recollection of his past where he committed a regrettable act of violence against his father’s closest disciples. His father, having come to terms with the realization that his son was not human but instead a monster in a human form, met his demise at the hands of Meguro.

As the Netlfix s’ announcement mentions, Kengan Ashura will cover the final bits of the Kengan Annihilation Tournament arc. If the anime follows the manga chronologically, chapter 137 would be in line for adaption and the summary of it reads as:

The backgrounds of Wakatsuki Takeshi and Julius Reinhold have been brought to light. Wakatsuki was diagnosed with Superman Syndrome at birth, while Julius was subjected to an excessive amount of steroids, resulting in superhuman strength. Both athletes completed their pre-match preparations before entering the arena, where they engaged in a monumental fight.

Kengan Ashura will cover the remaining six fights leftover from Round 2 in the tournament.

KENGAN ASHURA CHARACTERS, CAST, AND CREW

The Kengan Ashura anime is under the direction of Seji Kishi, who is also a notable martial artist. During an interview, Mr. Kishi was asked if he had always desired to create a martial arts-inspired anime similar to Kengan Ashura. In response, he stated:

“I have a profound interest in martial arts, which has led me to develop a fascination with related anime and manga. The fiery and intense nature of martial arts, which often involves pain, blood, and violence, makes it a captivating subject. As a result, I have developed a deep appreciation for martial arts anime and manga.”

The television show in question has been expertly scripted by Makoto Uezu, with Kazuaki Morita serving as the chief character designer and Yasuharu Takanashi as the composer of its music.

Naoka Akuzawa has fulfilled the role of art director and Masaki Sakamoto has edited the production. The animation has been produced by Larx Entertainment, a reputable company in this field.
