LOCKE AND KEY SEASON 3: TRAILER + RELEASE DATE CONFIRMED
Locke and Key Season 3, Let’s roll; “Our past is always with us, you can try and run away, but it’s always there”
Within the cauldron of TV shows available on Netflix, many go unnoticed . Locke and Key fall under that particular description.
Locke and Key is a fantasy horror drama developed by Carlton Cuse, Meredith Averill, and Aron Eli Coleite, based on the comic-book series of the same name by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez.
The series follows the Locke family comprising of mother Nina and her children Tyler, and Kinsey Bode, who move into the Keyhouse after the murder of their father, Rendell. Keyhouse holds many secrets, including magical keys, which can be used to unlock supernatural powers.
Can the remaining family find the reason for their father s’ death, and how these magical keys connect with the netherworld is what forms the show’s central plot?
Locke and Key premiered on 7th February 2020 and completed the second season on 22nd October 2021. Ever since the cliff-hanger ending of season two, fans of the show have demanded the release of Locke and Key Season 3.
We have some good news for Locke and Key Season 3 release date, so let’s jump straight into it.
WHEN WILL LOCKE AND KEY SEASON 3 BE RELEASED?
The first update came on 30th November via Locke and Key Twitter and it confirmed that Season 3 would return in 2022.
Filming of Locke and Key Season 3 began in early May 2021 and finished in late October 2021. The post-production, including the audio post, was completed by February 2022.
The second update was Tweeted on 6th June 2022, officially announcing that Locke and Key Season 3 will premiere on 10th August 2022.
The tweet was also followed by a Trailer that confirmed that Locke and Key Season 3 will be the final season of the series and will comprise eight episodes.
Locke and Key is rated 7.4/10 on IMDB and is 74% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
WHY ARE LOCKE AND KEY ENDING AFTER SEASON 3?
Fans were left disappointed after learning that Locke and Key will end with season 3 in the Trailer. This is not a surprise as the show’s creators had already planned since season one as a three-arc series. Also, notoriously Netflix is stringent for any show to run past three seasons.
Creators Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill said, “Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion.”
It’s strange why Locke and Key, Netflix s’ big success show, is being concluded third post-season. Well, there is not much add there as fans have to bid an unwelcomed farewell after Locke and Key Season 3.
LOCKE AND KEY SEASON 3 PLOT + EXPECTATIONS
The finale of Locke and Key Season 3, aptly titled “Cliff hanger,” did leave us with one as we take a quick recap.
Kinsey gets the angel key and escapes Gabe s’ clutches after refusing his offer. Duncan, who created the Demon key, releases the Demons on Dodge, who uses the Plant Key to destroy the house. Tyler kills Dodge using the Alpha key as Lucas emerges from the demon s body and returns the stolen keys.
We see the reunion of Ellie with Rufus and Lucas, while Tyler promises never to use the memory key as he wants to live a peaceful life. Nina wants to remember the magic, so Bode uses the memory key on her and shows the memories of Rendall.
Finally, the episode concludes with Eden summoning Gideon using the Echo Key, who throws Eden into the well and escapes into the real world by the Anywhere key.
So, the climax gave us the biggest reveal as Gideon will be the main antagonist for Locke and Key Season 3. The Trailer reveals the plan Gideon as he is set to resurrect the dead British soldiers and use them to kill the Locke family.
Gideon was the captain of the British Army during the American Revolution, who found the portal and saw it as a source of power. He got hit by a whispering bullet to attain the demon powers but was killed by the American army. Three hundred years later, he is bought back by Eden, and now he is on a mission to create havoc again.
Expect multiple flashbacks to 1775 as his past Gideon will be shown and how the Locke family was responsible for his capture and death.
On a side note, Gideon is not a character from the comic books as it’s developed by the show’s creators and not the writer Joe Hill. This is interesting as it’s expected Season 3 will follow a more liberating approach.
Locke and Key Season 3 will also show the struggles of the Locke family after the battle with Dodge. Nina is becoming more eager to learn about the past and magic, while on the other hand, Tyler is keeping his distance from the supernatural before he forgets everything on his 18th birthday.
The Trailer also shows Bode finding the Timeshift Key in the grandfather clock and activating it with a beaming smile. We expect this powerful Key to be significant as it can be used to travel to the past.
The Trailer ends with a surprise reveal of Dodge, seemingly killed by Tyler with the Alpha key. In season 3, Locke and Key will have her return as it appears she never died, and it only means the Locke family will have more enemies to face.
We expect Locke and Key Season 3 to take a darker narrative with higher stakes.
