The girl is Mai Sakurajima, who got her claim to fame as a child, but currently, she has paused her career for unknown reasons. Mai is popular in school, but no one interacts or notices until Sakuta sees her.
He realizes Mai suffers from Adolescence Syndrome and decides to help her get back on track. His actions invite more girls who suffer the same predicament as Sakuta tries to solve the mystery around it.
Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai is a contemplative series that feels like a fog or a slightly windy day, enough to take note of the cold wind but not enough to put on more than long sleeves or a jacket.
Issues of social integration and self-esteem are drawn through the characters that Sakuta encounters in the show, and repeatedly he is able to find a solution for how they can improve or get past their mental hang.

In the Aniplex Event 2022, it was also announced that Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai Anime Sequel will cover Volumes 8, and 9 of the light novel titled Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid respectively.

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai Light novel is written by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Keji Mizoguchi.
It was first published in ASCII Media Works in April 2017, and as of September 2022, 11 volumes have been released, and Volume 12, titled Rascal Does Not Dream of My Student scheduled to be released on 9th December 2022.
Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai season one used up a major chunk of the light novel, with a total of 6 volumes being adopted.Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl film also used up another volume, i.e., Volume 7.
Another plausible reason why the sequel will not be titled Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai Season 2 as there is no source material available for producing a second season.
If we assume, six volumes are required to produce a season, and with seven volumes already exhausted by the first season and movie, only four volumes remain as source material as established, it won’t be sufficient.
Hence, it’s understandable why the sequel wasn’t announced as Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai Season 2.

RASCAL DOES NOT DREAM OF BUNNY GIRL SENPAI ANIME SEQUEL PLOT
The sequel will begin by adapting the eighth volume of the light novel, “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister on an Outing.” Sakuta will be in the second year of high school as Mai feels she is running out of student life.
Sakuta s younger sister Kaede who has enjoyed the comforts of home, wishes to attend the same high school her brothers go to, which Sakuta is ambivalent about but trusts Kaede as it’s a step in the future for her.
The ninth volume will also be adapted and titled “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Girl with a Leather Backpack.” Mai is closing on her graduation ceremony, and she also meets her mother, who is in hospital. Sakuta and Mai will discuss the former s’ mother, who took care of him and Kaede.
Sakuta wonders if he should change or not, to which Mai implores him to remain the same and become independent. Sakuta reunites with his mother and thanks her for taking care of Kaede.
