Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai follows High schooler Sakuta Azusagawa who notices a girl dressed in a Bunny costume wandering through the school library.
The girl is Mai Sakurajima, who got her claim to fame as a child, but currently, she has paused her career for unknown reasons. Mai is popular in school, but no one interacts or notices until Sakuta sees her.
Sakuta, the protagonist of the story, realizes that Mai, one of the characters, is suffering from Adolescence Syndrome. He takes it upon himself to assist her in getting back on the right track. His actions draw the attention of other girls who are also experiencing the same predicament as Mai.
As Sakuta seeks to unravel the mystery surrounding this unusual phenomenon, he comes across more girls who require his help.

During the recent Aniplex Event 2022, it was announced that the upcoming sequel of the anime series, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, will cover Volumes 8 and 9 of the light novel series. These volumes are titled Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid, respectively.
It is worth noting that the upcoming adaptation of the Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai light novel series will only cover two volumes. Consequently, there is a possibility that the follow-up production might be categorized as a movie rather than a second season of the anime.

“The light novel titled ‘Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai’ has been authored by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Keji Mizoguchi. It is a noteworthy piece of work and deserves recognition for its contribution to the literary world.”
It was first published in ASCII Media Works in April 2017, and as of September 2022, 11 volumes have been released, and Volume 12, titled Rascal Does Not Dream of My Student scheduled to be released on 9th December 2022.
Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai season one used up a major chunk of the light novel, with a total of 6 volumes being adopted. The cinematic adaptation of “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl” has utilized an additional volume, namely Volume 7 of the original source material.
Another plausible reason why the sequel will not be titled Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai Season 2 as there is no source material available for producing a second season.
If we assume, six volumes are required to produce a season, and with seven volumes already exhausted by the first season and movie, only four volumes remain as source material as established, it won’t be sufficient.
Therefore, it is comprehensible why the follow-up was not disclosed as Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai Season 2.
The light novel sold more than 1 million copies by November 2018 and was ranked 5th in Japan s’ Top-Selling Light Novels Series 2019.

The manga series “Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai” is authored by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Tsugumi Nanamiya. This series was first serialized in Dengeki G’s Comic magazine on December 1st, 2015, and has since been collected into six volumes as of June 27th, 2022.

RASCAL DOES NOT DREAM OF BUNNY GIRL SENPAI ANIME SEQUEL PLOT
The upcoming sequel will be based on the eighth volume of the light novel, “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister on an Outing.” The story will revolve around Sakuta, who is in his second year of high school, and Mai, who feels as though she is nearing the end of her student life.
Sakuta s younger sister Kaede who has enjoyed the comforts of home, wishes to attend the same high school her brothers go to, which Sakuta is ambivalent about but trusts Kaede as it’s a step in the future for her.
The upcoming ninth volume of the series will be adapted and titled as “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Girl with a Leather Backpack.” It features a storyline where Mai, one of the main characters, is approaching her graduation ceremony and happens to meet her ailing mother in a hospital.
In the course of events, Sakuta, another character, engages in a discussion with Mai about his mother who had taken care of him and his younger sister Kaede in the past.
Sakuta wonders if he should change or not, to which Mai implores him to remain the same and become independent. Sakuta reunites with his mother and thanks her for taking care of Kaede.
