Re Zero season 3 is one of the most anticipated isekai anime of 2022, but is the release date confirmed?

We are never far away from an isekai anime blowing up yearly; it just comes with the massive fandom and the exciting storylines. If you are into this genre or aren’t, there are high chances you must have heard of Re Zero: Starting Life in Another World or simply Re Zero.

 Re: Zero is the dark fantasy anime written by Tappei Nagatsuki, which follows the story of Subaru Natsuki, who is suddenly summoned into a fantasy world after shopping at a convenience store.

He meets Emilia, and in trying to help an elf regain her insignia from thieves, Subaru is killed. A few hours after his death, Subaru is revived and realizes he has got the power to return from the dead anytime. His abilities come at a cost, though, as every time he dies, he carries along with the memories from his previous life while everyone else forgets what happened.

His missions now include helping Emilia become the next queen of Lugunica, making new friends, liberating evil use his newfound power.

Re: Zero is a must-watch for its innovative storytelling and changing from comedy to a serious tone despite being an Isekai anime. The animation is beautiful, and the characters are likable—a must-watch for any Isekai fan.

WHAT IS THE RE ZERO SEASON 3 RELEASE DATE?

The first season of Re Zero premiered on 4th February 2016 with 25 episodes. The second season came out in two parts; the first part was released on 8th July 2020 and the second part on 6th January 2021 with 13 and 12 episodes, respectively.

As of July 2022, there is no update from the creator Tappei Nagatsuki or White Fox studio for the Re Zero season 3 release date.

If we look at the past release schedule, it’s pretty evident that the pandemic delayed the premier for Re Zero season 2; as a result, it had to be released in two parts.

Some fans will be worried about whether the series will be renewed for a third season. Well, fear not because we have an official word from the show s’ producer Sho Tanaka who, in a Crunchyroll interview, said:

I’m confident you’ll all be clamoring for a third season once you’ve finished watching this one (season 2). While this may not be a confirmation, it is clear that the producers are considering making a third season.

This piece of statement must be a relief for Re Zero fans as season 3, albeit no official confirmation yet, will happen. 

That raised another question, when will Re Zero season 3 come out? The simple answer is not anytime soon, as the second season finished in January 2021.

The announcement was made at the special stage at AnimeJapan 2023, and a teaser for the upcoming season was also released on YouTube by Kadokawa.

If we go by the previous release schedule, which took four years to release season 2, a rough estimate suggests that Re Zero season 3 will come out in 2024.

A visual was also released to commemorate Re:Zero Season 3’s production announcement. The visual is drawn by Shinichirou Ootsuka, who made the original character designs for Re:Zero light novels by Tappei Nagatsuki.

UPDATE MARCH 2023: During the Anime Japan 2023 event, Re:Zero Season 3 was officially announced and a new trailer alongside new key visual have also been released.

RE ZERO LIGHT NOVEL CATCHUP

Re: Zero novel is written by Tappei Nagatsuki and serialized on Shosetsuka ni Naro from 20th April 2012. The light novel is illustrated by Shinichiro Otsuka and published by the Media factory.

The first volume was released on 24th January 2014, and so far, 30 volumes, 5 side stories, and seven short story collections have been released.

The light novels have sold more than 11 million copies, while the anime series has sold more than 70,000 copies on home video. IT was the fourth best-selling light novel with 424,173 units sold from 23rd November 2020 to 21st November 2021.

Re Zero manga is adapted by Daichi Matsue and was released on 23rd October 2014. The final volume came out on 23rd March 2015.

The anime adapted the first 15 volumes or the four Arcs for the first two seasons, which means there are 15 more volumes left for further adaptation. Hence, creators should not face any problems regarding lack of source material as the manga had a four-year head start ahead of the anime.

RE ZERO SEASON 3 PLOT

The third season will, as mentioned previously will, start by adapting the Stars that Engrave History Arc. Anastasia invites Emilia, Crusch, Priscilla, and Felt camps to attend a function at the Watergate City of Priestella.

The function turns into a brawl and goes south as the Witch Cult, and Sin Archbishop come crashing. To save the city, Subaru must gather all his allies and free the city of the Witch cult as they take on the Sin Archbishop.

Many substories will need resolving, mainly when will Rem wake up? Rem was on the way back to the Capital with Crusch but was attacked by the Sin Archbishops of Greed and Gluttony, Ley Batenkaitos.

Due to Gluttony’s ability to eat a being’s name and existence, Rem is in a coma-like state with all her memories and name erased from existence. Only Subaru can remember Rem with his ability, “Return by Death.”

With Rem out of the picture, Subaru and Emilia’s relationship should also be a central theme of the third season. Will Subaru end up with Emilia? We don’t expect this question to be resolved in the third season, but a fair bit of foreshadowing to the answer will most likely happen.
