One such series featuring this trope was privy to the Spring 2023 slate as the anime adaption of Koji Seo s’ manga, The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses, hit the small screens.
The narrative centers around Hayato Kasukabe, a young adult of 19 years, who lost his parents in an accident at the age of three. Subsequently, he was raised by his grandmother, Sachiko Kasukabe.
Following an argument with her, he leaves to pursue his graduation at the University of Tokyo.
When Sachiko passes away, Hayato returns to close down her café called Familia and build a car park.
However, while visiting the café, he finds five girls living there who work in the café as a waitress and are the unofficial granddaughter of Sachiko.
The aforementioned individuals, namely Ouka Makuzawa, Akane Hououji, Riho Tsukishima, Shiragiku Ono, and Ami Tsuruga, have evidently formed a strong and unbreakable bond with Sachiko. As a result, they have expressed their reluctance in relinquishing their current abode, which holds a significant meaning to them.
Although reluctant at first, Hayato is touched by the girl s’ relationship with her grandmother and is determined to carry on her legacy.

The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses Season One aired from 8th April 2023 to 24th June 2023 for 12 episodes.
Following the conclusion of season one, the anime s’ official website announced the renewal of The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses Season 2.
Although a precise The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses Season 2 release date was not revealed, the sequel is set to release in mid 2024.

The manga titled “Megami no Café Terrace” is both written and illustrated by Kōji Seo. It commenced serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine on the 17th of February, 2021.
At the time of composition, the manga has been compiled into 11 volumes, with the most recent installment issued on July 14, 2023.

THE CAFÉ TERRACE AND ITS GODDESSES SEASON 2 PLOT
In the final episode of The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses Season One, “Two Encounters,” Hayato decides to create a new item on the menu but doesn’t trust Akane and Riho due to their rivalry.
While out with Shiragiku, he asks why she was in her room last night and what she knows about his grandmother.
In a flashback, we see, Shiragiku as a child, visiting the Familia café with his father, who had learned cooking from Sachiko and has opened a successful three-star restaurant in Spain.
During their encounter, Shiragiku came across Hayato, a young individual who exhibited arrogance and a lack of respect towards his grandmother.
Later, Hayato learns that Sachiko has quit her dreams of opening a restaurant in Spain and stayed back in Japan to take care of Hayato.
Hayato is grieved to know that she ruined her life as Sachiko s’ happiness was seeing him grow.
After knowing the truth, Hayato is determined to make Familia Café a bigger success, and so do the eavesdropping girls.
In a flashforward, the audience is shown an older Hayato, who continues to serve at Familia. However, he is now accompanied by his teenage daughter, whose mother remains a mystery among the five potential candidates.
During a picnic with Hayato and the girls, Shiragiku, who was under the influence of alcohol, unexpectedly professed her feelings for Hayato. This confession came as a surprise to everyone, especially to Akane and Riho, who now have another contender for Hayato’s affection.
The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses Season One covered till Chapter 43 of the manga, which means The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses Season 2 will begin by adapting Chapter 44.
Akane wakes up Hayato and asks him to accompany her to the toilet since she fears ghosts.
Suddenly, Hayato hears some noise and decides to check out the rooms, wondering if it could be a thief.
In a nearby room, Hayato spots a shadowy figure and screams in surprise, which leaves Akane unconscious.
It’s revealed the shadowy figure was a cute cat which Akane suggests that they should keep it.
But Hayato reminds us that a café is no place for a cats, but after a four against two votes, the cat is added to the family, but what will its name be?
