The Witcher Season 3: 5 Things Fans Hope To See in Season 3
Witcher Series have given the audience many plot twists and nail-biting action with a dramatic yet exciting ending. Here’s what things fans are expecting would Witcher Season 3 cover.
Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels inspired series, The Witcher, was released in 2019 on Netflix. For three years, the Witcher series has given the audience a lot of amazing content to go into the world of Witcher. The Witcher Season 1 served the purpose of introducing different characters in different timelines, which was criticized because of being chaotic.
The Witcher Season 2 entailed a less confusing timeline, provided with extreme suspense and horrifying monsters. The main characters of the Witcher series include a Witcher, monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia, played by Henry Cavill; a powerful mage, Yennefer of Vengerberg, played by Anya Chalotra; and a young girl, Princess Cirilla of Ciri, who have Elder Blood running through her veins, played by Freya Allan.
The Witcher Season 2 covered the journey of the Witcher, Geralt and Ciri, going to Kaer Morhen, Geralt’s hometown. The father-daughter, like the relationship of Geralt and Ciri, got stronger by the end of the season, and it also left the whole Continent on the brink of war as the whole world was coming after Ciri, who had a huge potential inside her to destroy or save the world.
Everyone has different intentions of getting hands-on Ciri, such as Elves are hoping for a peaceful future, whereas a mystical Wild Hunt was coming after her because of her legacy, and the biggest villain of the Continent, The White Flame, the emperor of Nilfgaard, who turned out to be Ciri’s father is trying to capture her throughout the whole series.
Many things will be eagerly awaited in the Witcher Season 3, and the next season is said to be based on the ‘Time of Contempt’ novel of Andrzej Sapkowski. The possibilities of events in season 3 are filling up the minds of fans who would be most likely to be covered. It is almost certain that the Witcher Season 3 will feature more bloodthirsty monsters, amazing action, and a new range of familiar characters.
5 Things Fans Hoping to See in Witcher Season 3
5. Ciri Growing into Her Powers
The Witcher Season 1 introduced the character Princess Cirilla of Cintra, Ciri, who was led on a path to find her destiny, Geralt of Rivia. In Ciri’s family, only her grandmother, Queen Calanthe, was left, but that too was killed when Nilfgaard attacked Cintra. Ciri was on the run from the Nilfgaardian army, which was commanded to capture her and bring her to the emperor of Nilfgaard. During her escape from Cintra, a hint of Ciri’s powers is shown when she is very emotional.
In the Witcher Season 2, more of Ciri’s powers were discovered when a villain, The Deathless Mother, Voleth Meir, possessed her body. In Season 2, the information about Ciri’s hierarchy was shared that she was a descendant of Lara Dorren and the bearer of Elder Blood, Hen Ichaer. The prophecy stated that the descendant of Elder Blood would destroy the Continent’s civilization.
It was theorized that the more deadly and dangerous monsters witnessed by Geralt in Kaer Morhen were the result of opening inter-dimensional portals through the monolith, and Ciri did unknowingly open some of the portals. Yennefer and Geralt decided to help Ciri control and master her powers.
In the Witcher books, Yennefer, who now can’t use magic, takes Ciri to her school of learning, Aretuza. She tries to teach Ciri to control her powers in a controlled environment, during which their bond develops into a mother-daughter relationship. In the source materials, both the books and the video games, Ciri is shown able to jump through time and space, a powerful skill that was hinted at at the end of The Witcher Season 2.
4. Ciri, Geralt and Yennefer – Against the World
At the end of the Witcher Season 2, Ciri was the only thing everyone in the whole Continent was talking about. All the powerful leaders of the Continent were trying to capture Ciri and use her powers to their own benefit.
The Elves leader, Francesca, wanted a peaceful future and learned about Ciri being Elder Blood which would definitely help in her success. The Brotherhood of Sorcerers has planned to kill the chance of destroying the Continent and making the prophecy true. A mysterious mage, Reince, was after Ciri, whose reasons were unknown. The Redanian King Vizimir II wanted to get hands-on Ciri for the sake of claiming the Cintrian throne. And one of the most important and biggest villains of all, The White Flame, the Nilfgaardian Emperor, Emhyr Var Emreis, turned out to be Ciri’s father who wants to reclaim her daughter. And the list doesn’t finish here, as another top and unexplored villain, The Wild Hunt, was shown coming after Ciri with the intention to join her in their army.
The Witcher Season 3 would be full of plot twists and amazing action when Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri are on one side against the whole Continent. The bond between Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri would probably grow closer because of the training given by Geralt and Yennefer to Ciri and protecting her from the dangers of the world. The fans are interested in seeing how Yennefer again Geralt’s and Ciri’s trust again after betraying them in the Witcher Season 2.
3. Thanedd Coup
In the Witcher Season 2, the plotline sets up a growing tension between Nilfgaard and the Northern Kingdoms, and Season 3 would definitely develop on this narrative. The Witcher Book, Time of Contempt, on which Season 3 would be based, finishes its story with Thanedd Coup at the Conclave of the Mages. There hasn’t been much information disclosed regarding it, but it is safe to say that that story will revolve around it.
The war between the supporters, the opponents and the neutral parties with the Nilfgaard Kingdom will lead to cutting off the political edge of the Brotherhood of Sorcerers, a major plot and political shift.
Unlike Season 2, if Witcher Season 3 truly follows the books, then the characters, Redanian Djisktra and the shape-shifting Philippa Eilhart (mostly shown as an owl), would play the most important roles in the future of the Continent. In the books, it is mentioned that Thanedd Coup leads to the death of one of the important characters, and the fans are linking it to the teasing of the showrunner, Lauren S. Hissrich, when she said, “season 3 will have a lot of action, some death… some death!”
2. Development of Scoia’tael Storyline
One of the major themes in the Witcher Books is Racial Oppression, which is focused on Time of Contempt. In the books, the radicalization of eleven guerrilla fighters by non-humans was witnessed by the Scoia’tael. According to the books, the Scoia’tael/Squirrel fighters were on the side of Nilfgaard, and the downfall of the elven clan was portrayed, because of which the fans are curious how will the showrunner will address the conflict.
A website, Redanian Intelligence, mentioned introducing a new character in the Witcher Season 3, ‘Marylebone’, which possibly would be Milva, a skilled archer. In the books, Milva joins the side of Geralt and Jaskier when they are trying to find Ciri, which was after the events of the Thanedd Coup.
1. Bigger and Badder Monsters
The Witcher Series include a lot of political wars, mages hunting Ciri, cruelty on Elves and other horrible things, but it majorly include the monsters. As the events of the Witcher Series move forward, the bigger and more horrifying monsters are witnessed.
The Witcher Season 1 showed some of the monsters, but the monsters that appeared in Witcher Season 2 were really dangerous and even killed some of the Witcher, the skilled people who are raised only to kill the monsters.
Many fans are hoping that Witcher Season 3 will include their all-time favourite video game featuring monsters, godlings and bottlings and more traditional griffins along with trolls, werewolves and vampires. Regardless of which monsters are selected to appear in Witcher Season 3, the viewers will enjoy the blood-pumping fights between the monster and the Witcher.
The Witcher Season 3 would probably be released in 2023, so for all the adventures, the fans have to wait for a little longer. In the meantime, a sequel of the Witcher series will be coming, The Witcher: Blood Origin, which would be for kids & family and everyone will enjoy.
