Scooby Doo is one the most iconic cartoon characters of all time, and anyone who grew up with the original series would appreciate the crime-solving adventures of the detective dog.
Scooby might be the face of the franchise, but the cartoon series is incomplete without his friends, namely Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Shaggy Rodgers, and Velma Dinkley, who form the Mystery Inc gang.
Of these four characters, the first three are incredibly popular as Fred is the man with the plan, Daphne is your first childhood crush, and Shaggy is your goofy friend.
However, when it comes to Velma, who, albeit smartly scientific, is also the awkward overlooked member of the group and probably doesn’t have a similar fanbase as others.
So fans were genuinely excited when HBO announced an animated series with the orange-clad turtle-neck Velma as the protagonist.
The show follows a teen Velma Dinkley as she attends Crystal Cove Highschool while a serial killer who targets attractive girls is on the loos.
When Velma is accused of murder, she doesn’t commit it and gets tasked to clear her name. But that’s not all, Velma also has a mystery to solve involving the disappearance of her mother.
Velma Season one was majorly received with negative reactions from the critics, with a whole host of fans scathing the adaption of their beloved Scooby Doo characters.
Despite the poor ratings and reviews, Velma Season 2 has been on the cards, and fans who did like the first season are wondering when will the second season come out.

WHAT IS THE VELMA SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE?
Velma Season One aired from 12th January 2023 to 9th February 2023 for ten episodes.
On 13th February 2023, in an interview with Deadline, the chairman and CEO of Warner Television Group, Channing Dungey, confirmed that Velma Season 2 is already developing for HBO Max.
Dungey’s team is working on a second season of Scooby-Doo spinoff Velma, an adult animated comedy that comes from Mindy Kaling.
Unfortunately, no information is provided on the Velma Season 2 release date.

The renewal was a surprise to many, as the first season was a complete disaster. Be it the storyline, edgy characters, or the lack of Scooby-Doo, the origins of the smartest member of Mystery Inc. failed to impress at any level.
Even the voice cast was heavily criticized as Mindy Kaling, the voice of Velma, spoke about the backlash her character received due to a change in ethnicity to south Asian.
When it was announced that I was going to do the voice of Velma, people were very supportive and happy on Twitter. So, I felt great because these are intense fans, you know? And especially [for] a legacy show like this. So it’s like, ‘Oh, this is great!’ Then, it was announced about a month ago that the Velma character would be reimagined as South Asian. And people were not happy. There was a lot of, like, ‘So not Velma!’ Those kinds of tweets. ‘Not the classic Velma that I’m always thinking about!’ I just really didn’t know that she elicited such strong reactions in either direction.

If we look at its IMDB user episode ratings, one can see how the show managed to piss off the entire Scooby Doo fanbase.

Velma season one is rated 41% on Tomatometer and 7% on the Audience Score by Rotten Tomatoes.
Although the show was received with mixed reviews, Velma season one set the record for the most-watched animated series debut on HBO Max.
Clearly, HBO doesn’t care about ratings or reviews, as it is only concerned about commercial gains and viewership numbers.
The first two episodes of Velma were released on January 12, 2023, on HBO Max, with the rest of the episodes being released in weekly pairs until 9th February 2023.
Similar to the first season Velma Season 2 will be streamed on HBO Max, and we can expect it to premiere in early 2024.
VELMA SEASON 2 PLOT
In the finale of Velma Season one, “The Brains of the Operation,” Velma doesn’t agree with the fact that her mother is the killer, and there is no time to prove her innocence as she is sentenced to death.
She noticed the irregularity of her answers and concluded Diya was hypnotized. In the past, she was also hypnotized by the killer to take the blame on herself.
Daphne recovers the pocket watch used for hypnosis which is embedded with the same logo as that of the Jones s’ company.
Velma thinks Jones is the killer as he is trying to to recreate Dr. Perdue’s work to switch Fred’s brain to a more competent person so that he could be a proper heir to the family company.
Velma arrives at the Jone’s and sees Daphne tied together with Fred. She tries to stop Victoria, who Norville unexpectedly kills.
The episode ends with the four of them going their separate ways after witnessing the events that transpired.
The plot for Velma Season 2 is yet to be revealed by HBO. Still, we can expect Velma Season 2 characters to be involved in more mysteries as Velma s’ relationship evolves within the group.
A potential storyline exploring Daphne and Velma s’ friendship as they solve crimes could be on the cards. Perhaps an adaption of Velma novel featuring Daphne wherein the pair solve crimes of a vanishing girl.
Once the Velma Season 2 trailer is out, we might get more of an idea of where the sequel is heading towards and if it will be worth the watch.
