The show is created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams, the series is a Netflix original zombie-thriller that first premiered on 11 April 2019. The series is set in the exact Universe as Z-nation. It is stamped as the prequel to the popular crazy zombie series but it’s more like a spiritual successor than anything else. The series is much better with an intimate and darker approach in comparison with its corresponding series.
The show is set years prior to the incidents of Z-nation. In the time of the darkest days of the Apocalypse, a helpless mother, Rose played by Jamie king, comes together with a bunch of strangers to locate her lost daughter and their loved ones. Even though the series has some spiritual connections to Z-nation but it’s set on a very distinct timeline from the sci-fi series which stays cancelled to the present day.

Expectations from the upcoming season of Black Summer
Since season 1 ended there has been a conflict on whether the show needs a second season or not. Season one ended on a somewhat happy note when Rose and her daughter were about to reunite offering viewers one of the rare happy moments in the first season.
From the Group of strangers working together to find their loved ones, Sun, Rose and Spears were the only ones who survived the journey to the stadium. Rose’s story finishes up after she’s reunited with her lost daughter. Spears’ only motivation was to survive this apocalypse and help Rose find her lost daughter. On the other hand, Sun who didn’t even know one word of English might just have been looking to vacate.
The sole survivor who had the motivation to continue the story was Vallez. Unfortunately, Rose had to mercy kill him as he was slowing the group down because of his injury. Also, Lance was absent often as he was running away from a swelling herd of zombies.

Talking about the herd of zombies, the tsunami was heavily implied during the first season, but it never happened. If Black Summer comes back for a second season, the tidal surge of zombies can’t be too far aware, but speculating how ineffective the protagonists are at slaying zombies, it’ll be the end when it comes.
There can be so much more to Black Summer, especially if the plans are for the show to connect with Z-Nation. We’d love to watch the story of Black Summer go into detail about the incident that’s spoken of on Z-Nation. Mass famine, paranoia, and terror made that summer one of the toughest periods of the apocalypse, which should be scrutinized in vaster details in the upcoming season.
