They say comedy is subjective, and not everyone finds a particular act or moment funny, which holds true for most harem comedy-romance like Couple of Cuckoos in general.
Kakkou no Iinazuke or Couple of Cuckoos is a harem comedy-romance anime adapted by Shin-Ei Animation and SynergySP from the manga writings of Miki Yoshikawa.
The story follows two people, Nagi Umino and Erika Amano, from different walks of life. Nagi is a second-year student who is studious and focused on getting the top grades in his class. On the other hand, Erika is a spoilt social media star who has lived all her life out of touch with reality owing to her wealthy upbringing.
The two contrasting personalities soon discover that they have been swapped during birth in real life and have been living with their adoptive families. The respective parents decide on getting the two exchanged kids engaged to avoid losing them, but this decision doesn’t bode well with Nagi and Erika.
Nagi s’ school crush Hiro Segawa had promised him a date if he secured more marks than her. Meanwhile, Erika self invites herself to Nagi s’ home, where she has trouble adjusting to the idea of discovering a real sister named Sachi who likes her.
Erika s’ father suggests they spend two weeks in a house he bought for them, wherein they can decide on the possible engagement.
Can Erika and Nagi face their respective realities and live together as a couple is the central plot of the show.

WHAT IS THE COUPLE OF CUCKOOS RELEASE DATE?
The first season of Couple of Cuckoos aired from 24th April 2022 to 29th August 2022 for 18 episodes.
As of writing, there is no update from the creator or writer for the renewal of Couple of Cuckoos season 2.
It’s understandable, considering the series ended recently, but we have seen previously animes being renewed before the conclusion. However, there are many factors that a studio accounts for before renewing. Financial success is paramount for any creator, which is an extension of popularity and viewership.
Speaking of which, the series was streamed on Crunchyroll, and sadly, it couldn’t make it on the most popular anime list. The reviews haven’t been positive, as many viewers felt the series used the usual harem groping tropes.
The protagonist plays an important role for any anime to be successful, and Couple of Cuckoos features two of them in Erika and Nagi, who have been underwhelming.
The average episode rating, according to Ratingraph.com, has been 7.3/10, and while the anime starts strongly, it fails to impress after the first six episodes. The significant drop from episodes 6 to 11 showcases the series’ lack of plot progression and retention rate. Check out below:
The series was initially picked up due to the success of the manga, following which a Kodansha representative confirmed: “the potential of the property and they would do their best to adapt it.”
That said, if we strictly consider the plot, the series ended on a massive cliffhanger which could ultimately be the most important point of consideration for a renewal.
It remains to be seen what the creators decide, but we can always speculate a guess on the show’s renewal status.

COUPLE OF CUCKOOS MANGA CATCHUP
Couple of Cuckoos manga is written by Miki Yoshikawa, and it began publishing in Weekly Shonen Magazine in September 2019 and serialization on 29th January 2020.
As of writing, the manga has been collected into 13 volumes, with the latest issue released on 15th July 2022. The 14th Volume is scheduled to release in September 2022.
Couple of Cuckoo manga sold more than 33,579 in the first three of its opening weeks, and on October 2020, the Couple of Cuckoo’s official Twitter reported the two volumes of the manga are selling every second. The manga sold more than 26,300 units in the first week, followed by 19,800 units the following week.
The third Volume was ranked 11th in the second week of September 2020 and dropped to 46th in the following week.
As of May 2022, volume 12 of the manga was ranked 12th on the Top Best-Selling manga of the third week of May. Volume 12 had a weekly sale of 65,625 units.
Couple of Cuckoo manga has been nominated for the 46th Kodansha Manga Award for the shōnen category in 2022.
When we compare manga with anime, the latter has remained faithful to the source material despite the fact it’s rare to see a rom-com receive two cours in its first season. Each episode adopted approximately 2.5 chapters, and the 18-episode series finished on chapter 42 and covered the fifth Volume of the manga.
With 11 volumes still left to be adapted, creators should not face any problems regarding lack of source material.
Couple of Cuckoos manga is rated 6.9/10 and ranked #452 with 32k members on MyAnimeList.
COUPLE OF CUCKOOS SEASON 2 PLOT
The final episode of season one, “Who is that Person,” is aptly titled for the cliffhanger the show left the viewers. Nagi confronts Erika about a picture he found faced upside down at her home. The picture has a boy resembling Nagi, which was placed in a way, Nagi could discover it.
Erika throws a bucket of water at Nagi and asks him if he is ready to listen to the answers, and Nagi replies confidently.
Couple of Cuckoos season 2 will open from where season one left off, i.e., Nagi learning the boy’s identity in the frame. According to Erika, this mysterious boy in the picture is important to her as Nagi s’ adoptive sister Sachi is to him.
The second season will also bring back Nagi s’ school crush Hiro Segawa would be kidnapped as Nagi witnesses her abduction during shopping with Erika. Who here kidnappers are will be revealed in season two.
We will also introduce a new character in the second season, Ai Mochizuki. Ai is his childhood friend of Nagi who moved away to China during Nagi s’ younger years, and she has returned.
Ai is a talented singer, and during their childhood days, only Nagi appreciated and praised her singing abilities. When Ai was going away, Nagi amusingly asked her to marry him, and Ai responded by stating she would give an answer when they next met.
Ai is dubious of all the happenings around Nagi, but she does have an answer to Nagi s’ marriage proposal; expect more chaos and confusion to follow Nagi.

CONCLUSION
Even if the series fails financially, fans of Couple of Cuckoos would be hoping for a second season; if there is anything no one likes, its unvisited cliffhangers.
