Tsurune is sports anime adapted from the light novel works of Kotoko Ayano by Kyoto Animation.

Can Minato overcome his fear of missing the target and win his school the annual inter-school Kyudo contest is the central plot of the show.

In the final episode of season one, “Irreplaceable,” it all comes down to Minato and Fujiwara bringing home the gold for their respective teams. Kazemi High School’s club captain Seiya says he isn’t chasing Minato anymore but instead going along with him.

The childhood friends have been in constant verbal wars, but during the final moments, both patch up. We see Saioji, the former teacher of Fujiwara, and Minato has come to watch her two students.

The contest begins, and Fujiwara and Minato outscore all other contestants as the climax sets the two up against each other. In the final moments, both the archers fire their arrows, revealing that Fujiwara has missed his fourth shot while Minato has got all his on target.

Minato wins the competition but realizes Fujiwara had a target panic during his shot. The Kazemi Kyudo club celebrates their winning moment together as the episode ends with Minato saying, “For now, that’s all I need.”

The epilogue revealed that both Minato and Masaki were present during the scene where the former decided to take up Kyudo. It’s indicative of the different phases of their life wherein Minato begins his Kyudo journey while Masaki is facing target panic, just as Minato did in his later years.

Tsurune season 2 will pick up from where season one left off, and we will see our archers in their second year at Kazemi High School. As they excelled in the last year’s nationals, new members will become part of the team.

Likewise, Kirisaki Highschool will be flooded with new applicants looking to impress Fujiwara, particularly Kudou Takumi. But all is not smooth as we will also see a rift between the first years and the management.

As the archers come of age, they will have new beginnings filled with competition and high tail emotions.
