EMILIA CLARKE CONFIRMS GAME OF THRONES JON SNOW SPINOFF
Emilia Clarke has opened a can of worms about the new Game of Thrones Jon Snow Spin off series.
Another day and another Game of Throne’s news is what seems to be routine for now. The latest update comes from Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen and has revealed some important details about the new Game of Thrones Jon Snow spin-off show.
On June 16th, Hollywood Reporter broke the news that a new Game of Thrones Jon Snow sequel is under development and Kit Harrington will reprise his role. Following this news, fans of the Game of Thrones series had mixed reactions and excitement.
Few fans felt the news source, i.e., writer James Hibberd is unreliable considering his sour relationship with the fans. James has been termed as a ‘mouthpiece’ for creators of the show, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, who aren’t the most popular among the game of thrones fans.
While some fans are skeptical, many are excited about the prospect of seeing one of the fan’s favourite characters back on screen. This is mainly due to the rushed finish and unsatisfactory ending for the character arc of Jon snow.
Game of Thrones season 8 is the lowest-rated season in the franchise, and a lot of it’s accreted to the disappointing final episode. It’s no wonder why fans to date create fantasy endings and engage in lengthy Reddit threads about the series’ climax.
With that being said, it looks like a Jon Snow sequel might not be a rumour after all, as it’s coming from Emilia Clark, who is good friends with Kit Harrington. So let’s break down the latest development on the Game of Thrones Jon Snow spin-off series.
DID EMILIA CONFIRM THE JON SNOW SPIN-OFF SHOW?
On June 23rd, 2022, in an interview with BBC News, Emilia Clarke said about the news in Hollywood Reporter, “He has told me about it. And I know it exists. It’s happening.”
Looking at her statement, it’s quite straightforward that the Game of Thrones Jon Snow Spin off series is true. Emilia s assertiveness about the show s’ existence dispels any rumours about it being fake.
We don’t have any confirmation from HBO or Kit Harrington himself as of writing, but it seems that the announcement might not be too far.
We expect the creators of the show to put out an official word before the start of the Prequel show House of the Dragons, which will premier on August 21st, 2022.
IS KIT HARRINGTON CREATING THE SPIN-OFF SHOW?
After reading the article in Hollywood Reporter, the fans raised many questions, mainly who was creating the Game of Thrones spin-off as No source material nor George R R Martin had been approached for the show.
Well, knowingly or unknowingly, Emilia Clarke, another statement in the same interview, revealed the answers to the burning question.
Emilia said, “It’s been created by Kit as far as I can understand, so he’s in it from the ground up. So, what you will be watching, hopefully, if it happens, is certified by Kit Harington.”
Emilia let out more than she probably should, but again, her statement is to the point and can’t be misconstrued.
Knowing Kit Harrington is working from the ground up must be a relief for fans. Without any source material, the actor must be involved in maximum capacity.
Although using Kit s name as part of the creative team might be a marketing stunt to bring back the fans who left after Season 8 s’ ending. Tying Kit s’ is an easy way for marketing and cash grab.
Kit Harrington has been venturing into the MCU series with Eternals, but it’s been an outing so far as he can’t confirm whether his character Dan Whitman will return or not.
The new Jon Snow spin-off series will raise his stocks as an actor and would open up better opportunities for Kit.
DOES THIS CONFIRM GRRM INVOLVEMENT?
The last bit of Emilia s statement is of major consideration for the Jon Snow spin-off to be true. If it happens, we would be getting a certified show by Kit himself.
This would be big news as we still fail to comprehend how George R R Martin isn’t involved or being consulted for this new spin-off show.
Recently, GRRM signed a five-year deal with HBO to develop more programming for the network, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter. The projects include House of the Dragon Nymeria Project, The Sea Snake, Flea Bottom, Dunk and Egg project, and an animated drama series.
None of them include any continuation with the old cast of the Game of Thrones original series. Also, GRRM still hasn’t finished writing Winds of Winter; hence his involvement in the new Jon Snow spin-off will be highly unlikely.
WILL EMILIA CLARKE RETURN FOR THE SPIN-OFF SHOW?
Emilia was asked, “Would she ever consider appearing in a spin-off to Game of Thrones, or is she done with dragons? She replied, “No, I think I’m done,“
Emilia Clarke will be staring as Nina in her upcoming stage play based on Anton Chekhov s’ The Seagulls, which will take place in Harold Pinter Theatre, London, on June 29th, 2022.
Well, that’s a shame because Game of Thrones’s season 8 ending messed up her character development and fans would have loved to see Daenerys Targaryen back in the Jon Snow spin-off show.
Who knows, maybe Emilia gets a creative epiphany, and she might start the Daenerys Targaryen sequel at some point; we really hope so.
While Emilia may not return, there is a possibility that Yara Greyjoy, played by Gemma Whelan, could make a comeback.
Whelan was asked by Good Morning Britain presenter Kate, “If Gemma had any inclination to return to HBO’s blockbuster fantasy series?”
Whelan replied, “I would love to do it again.”
Game of Thrones dragons are a big part of the show, but the Greyjoys have an iron fleet whose power was evidenced in the capture of Yara by her uncle Yuron Greyjoy. She was later freed by her brother Theon, and they set sail to different places.
So, the setting up for Yara to be back would need some creative thinking which is important to Gemma Whelan as she added, “With the same set of people and the same set of circumstances, I would love to.”
