Higehiro Season 2: Is There Enough Source Material?

HigeHiro Season 2 renewal status explored!

Rom-coms are a fan-favorite genre within the anime community, as, despite some over-the-top antics, one can relate to the characters and their stories.

Recently, rom-com such as Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki, My Dress-Up Darling, and Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai have become incredibly popular in the fandom.

Similarly, Summer 2021 was privy to one such popular rom series as the anime adaption of Shimesab s’ light novel, Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway hit the small screens.

The plot follows Yoshida, a 26-year-old IT salaryman who one day confesses his feelings to a senior named Gotou Airi at the workplace.

However, it turns out Airi is already seeing someone else, which brings Yoshida s’ five years of unrequited love to an end.

Following the disappointment, Yoshida heads to a bar for a drink and vents his frustration to his colleague Yoshimoto.

As it starts to get late, Yoshida makes his way home, and while returning, he spots a high school girl, Sayu.

He then approaches the girl and asks what she is doing there at that time of night and that she should go home. The young girl answers that all the trains have stopped running for the night.

Sayu has a brief debate with Yoshida on where she should go, and eventually, the latter agrees to let her stay at his place for free despite the girl offering herself as payment.

The next day, Yoshida wakes up with clear head and no memory of last night. Sayu explains what happened and how she ended up in his apartment.

Yoshida finds it hard to let Sayu go and thus begins a journey as an underage high schooler and a heartbroken salaryman.

HigeHiro Season one was well received by reviewers and critics alike, and after its conclusion of it, fans were wondering if there would be a second installment or not.

HigeHiro Season 2Yet to be Announced

Production studios consider various financial and commercial metrics before announcing a renewal.

Financially, the first Blu-ray volume, which was released in June 2021, sold 1,759 copies in its first week. The second volume, which was released two weeks later, sold 2173 copies.

As mentioned earlier, HigeHiro Season One was a success and was one of the top-rated animes of the Summer 2021 slate.

Most fans enjoyed the characters and plotlines throughout the first season s’ run, which is further evidenced by its IMDB user episode ratings.

While the reviews, ratings, and profits are in favor, a crucial factor for renewal will be the availability of studio and source material.

Unfortunately, season one adapted the entire light novel, and hence there is no source material left for producing HigeHiro Season 2.

The good news is that the author has started writing a new epilogue titled “Hige wo Soru: Another Side Story,” which takes place several years later where Yoshida will meet with a grown-up Sayu. The novel focus will be on Yuzuha Mishima and Airi Gotou.

Shimesab tweeted I will be writing about those ‘various things’ as a spin-off work, so please wait for further news! I’m really glad to be able to put a period in the story of Mishima and Gotou!”

Even if the epilogue gets completed, studio Project No.9 has a packed schedule with four new projects set to release later this year.

Furthermore, the studio isn’t known for producing sequels which could spell bad news for fans hoping for new Higehiro: After Being Rejected I Shaved and Took in a High School Runawa Season 2 characters and plotlines.

The best fans can expect for any form of HigeHiro content is perhaps an OVA or movie, which could be made for promotional purposes for the epilogue.

All in All, it is highly unlikely that HigeHiro Season 2 will be happening, and consequently, it’s pointless waiting for any updates on HigeHiro Season 2 trailer and HigeHiro Season 2 release date.
