Players battling each other with magical creatures inscribed in cards that can be unleashed through a set of rules build up an exciting watch, but the quantity of such series has decreased over time.
Nowadays, real-life card games such as Poker are often used as themes, and winter 2023 was privy to one such series by Studio Hibari titled High Card.
The premise is set in the royal family of the Fourland Kingdom, who owns a private deck of 52 “X-Playing cards” wherein each card holds a secret power that can be bestowed on whosoever uses it.
The aforementioned cards facilitate the user to unlock the latent abilities of their inner “buddy”.
In the kingdom of Fourland, there exists an elusive group of individuals who go by the name High Card. They have been tasked by the highest order of authority, to locate and gather the scattered cards throughout the kingdom.
It is worth noting that these individuals are also employees of the luxury car manufacturing company, Pinochle.
The story follows pail-skinned blonde-haired thief Fin Oldman who tragically lost his family at a very young age and has been living his formative years in an orphanage.
Due to financial stress, the orphanage is on the verge of closing down, and it’s up to Finn to raise funds which leads him to a casino.
But things take a nightmarish turn when he gets involved in a car chase resulting in a bloody shootout caused by a man s’ lucky Card.
Soon, Finn finds himself scouted as the fifth member of the Highcard and joins the mission to retrieve the powerful playing cards.
However, a rival car maker, Who‘s Who, is determined to defeat the gang and desires to use these cards for their own ulterior motives.
Can High Card secure the cards amidst the threat of Who‘s Who is the central plot of the show.
High Card season one has been received with positive reviews from both critics and fans who already wondering if there will be a second season.

WHAT IS THE HIGH CARD SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE?
High Card season one premiered on 9th January 2023, and as of writing, 7 out of the listed 12 episodes have been aired.
Currently, there is no update from studio Hibari on the renewal of High Card Season 2.

Production studios look at various financial and consumer metrics before announcing a renewal.
High Card Season one has been relatively successful, but it still wasn’t as popular as other action fantasy series like The Misfit of Demon King Academy Ⅱ, NieR:Automata Ver1.1a, and Spy Classroom.
If we take a look at the IMDB user rating till episode 7, the reviews are mostly in favour of renewal.

While there is no concrete evidence suggesting either a cancellation or renewal, we can expect High Card Season 2 trailer and High Card Season 2 release date by Winter 2024.

The manga series titled “High Card -♢9 No Mercy” is authored by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Ebimo. It commenced publication in Square Enix’s online manga magazine Manga UP! on August 31, 2022.
Additionally, a drama CD adaptation of this franchise was released on December 3, 2021.

HIGH CARD SEASON 2 PLOT
Studio Hibari is yet to confirm the plot for High Card Season 2, but once the series gets renewed, we can expect the stakes to be increased for the group.
We have already seen the power of the X-playing cards wherein the appearance is the same as playing cards, but the design reflects the ability of each.
Heart suite allows the Power to change one’s own body. The Club suite gives the power to control natural objects.
The diamond suite is brimming with individualistic and peculiar powers. Spade suite holds power to summon weapons.
High Card Season 2 characters will face more formidable challenges as new X-Playing cards which can’t be destroyed come to light.

HIGH CARD CAST, CHARACTER, AND CREW
High Card anime is directed by Junichi Wada and scripted by Kazuhiko Inukai, Kenichi Yamashita, and Shingo Nagai.
Naoki Kuroyanagi serves as the series’ composer, with character designs by Nozomi Kawano. Ryo Takahashi is responsible for composing the music, and the opening theme song, “Trickster,” is performed by Five New Old. Meanwhile, the ending theme song, “Squad!,” is sung by Meychan.
Animation is produced by Studio Hibari, who has previously worked on popular series like Duel Masters, Gargoyle of Yoshinaga House, and Happy Lesson Advance.
