Hinamatsuri Season 2, renewed or cancelled?
Subversion in anime is a great way to move aside from the usual cliché and give a new spin to an old story.
Taking elements from one genre and twisting them into fascinating, unexpected narratives has been a success in many animes.
One such series which utilizes subversion correctly is the anime adaption by Studio Feel of Masao Ōtake s’ manga, Hinamatsuri.
The story follows Ashikawa-gumi s’ Yakuza member Yoshifumi Nitta, whose life is turned upside down when a capsule materializes out of where and falls on his head.
He opens the capsule to find a blue-haired girl who remains oblivious to everything around except divulging her name to Yoshifumi as Hina.
Hina also reveals that she possesses immense psychokinetic powers, which incidentally triggers an explosion and forces Yoshifumi to become her new caregiver.
Seeing her power, Yoshifumi ropes in Hina as part of a new construction deal, but things go south quickly as Yoshifumi is framed for attacking his boss.
Finding himself in a pickle, Yoshifumi is forced to retaliate against the rival Yakuza group. He arrives at their hideout with gritted teeth but gets cornered by the gang members.
Things look extremely grim for Yoshifumi, but the Hina saves his life by wiping out the rival group.
Seeing Hina s’ powers, Yoshifumi considers her a valuable asset in the Yakuza business, provided she doesn’t end up killing him.
Can this newfound partnership change the fortunes of Yoshifumi and what is the past of Hina is the central plot of the show.

WHAT IS THE HINAMATSURI SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE?
Hinamatsuri Season one aired from 6th April 2018 to 22nd June 2018 for 12 episodes.
As of writing, there is no update from Studio Feel or any other production studio on the renewal of Hinamatsuri Season 2.

Production studios consider various financial and commercial metrics before announcing a renewal.
As mentioned earlier, Hinamatsuri Season one was a relative success considering it was released alongside the likes of Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online, Shokugeki no Souma: San no Sara – Tootsuki Ressha-hen, Steins Gate, and Tokyo Ghoul: re.
Hinamatsuri was nominated for the 52nd Seiun Awards in the Best Comic category in 2021
The series’ popularity is further evidenced by its IMBD s’ user episode rating.

While the reviews and ratings are generally positive, sadly, the key metric studios use to fund a renewal is Blu-ray sales in Japan, of which slice-of-life series such as Hinamatsuri usually don’t go well.
Hinamatsuri sold 1,024 units in its first volume which is well below 4,000, so it doesn’t give much hope for the second season.
Things are also bleak on the manga side, which has ended thus leaving no source of additional income.
However, there are always surprises, and 2018 was a bad year in the anime industry in terms of disc sales, with only a few anime that could surpass this figure.
Furthermore, Studio feel is a popular studio but not a big one as they only do a maximum of 2 projects a year. Consequently, Spy Classroom has already been released on 5th January 2023.
While the series isn’t cancelled, Studio Feel is currently tight-lipped on future projects, but it looks unlikely that Hinamatsuri Season 2 will be a part of their release schedule.
However, things can change, and if they do, we can expect Hinamatsuri Season 2 trailer and Hinamatsuri Season 2 release date in late 2024.

Hinamatsuri manga is written and illustrated by Masao Ōtake. It began serialization in Enterbrain’s magazine Harta, formerly known as Fellows! On 15th July 2010.The manga is also available in English in One Peace Books publishing.

HINAMATSURI SEASON 2 PLOT
In the finale of Hinamatsuri Season one, “Yukimatsuri,” Hina, along with her classmates, is lost in the mountains as she runs out of energy while building an igloo.
The following day, the group encourages Hina by feeding her fake sushi, but her spirit remains dented.
Back in the present, a Japanese rocker recreates Hina s’ Rockusion while a Chinese student, Mao, tops the Superhuman Martial Arts at qigong.
The pair meet at a café wherein they wonder who Hina is. Mao goes back to Japan but is stopped by other members. The school s’ Sifu also uses unfair means to stop her but Mao trumps the attempt.
The episode ends with the Sifu allowing Mao to leave Japan to create more branches as she looks forward to meeting Hina.
Hinamatsuri season one covered the first nine volumes of the manga which means Hinamatsuri season 2 will begin by adapting volume ten.
According to some spoilers, Nitta and Hina relocate to a new area as father and daughter. Hina is now a student in a high school and will soon pick up part-time work as well.
Whereas Nitta will try to hide being a yakuza mobster from society while pulling up a single father’s role.
Along with their adventures, fans will continue to see more of Hinamatsuri Season 2 characters, some yakuza action and a lot of comedy in the anime’s second season.

Hinamatsuri anime is directed by Keo Oikawa with series composition by Keiichiro Ochi. Characters are designed by Kanetoshi Kamimoto, and the music is composed by Yasuhiro Misawa.
You, Iwaida, design the colors, and Satoshi Motoyama directs the art. Animation is developed by Studio feel with Yoichuro Uesaka as the animation producer.
