One Piece Live Action Series: Release Date And Key Visual Revealed

One Piece Live Action series set sails with its first look and premiere date!

Anime is a massive part of Japanese culture which has extended its influence and inspiration to various parts of the world.

The globalization of anime has not only bought in an influx of worldwide fans but also given many creators a different segment to showcase anime s’ artistic rendition in the form of live-action anime series.

Live action anime has remained a controversial topic within the fandom, which by common consent aren’t often the greatest as they fail to capture the emotions and interest that the original anime series did.

Undeniably we all have dreamt of seeing our favorite shonen character or slice-of-life romantic hero in real life, and live-action anime is the closest way to make that dream come true.

Netflix and Live action series have been much talked about within the anime community for quite some time now.

The streaming platform has produced the likes of Death Note (2017), Cowboy Bebop(2021), and Full Metal Alchemist: The Revenge of Scar(2022), which, to be blunt, have flopped massively.

Hence, there is always caution over admiration when Netflix announces a live anime action, especially when it’s one of the biggest shonen anime of all time, One Piece.

One Piece is the latest popular anime to receive a live action series for which there is equal concern and excitement.

No matter which side of the fence you sit on when it comes to live action anime series, it always generates a conversation, and the talk within the community is when will the One Piece Live Action series released.

One Piece is set in the Golden Age of Pirates who rule the seas and search for the mysterious treasure left by the Pirate King Gol D. Roger known as “One Piece.”

The story follows a young boy named Money D. Luffy who dreams of becoming the next Pirate King and eventually find One Piece.

But like any other pirate, he needs a crew, and thus he starts traveling all over the world, making friends and recruiting them for the ultimate adventure.

One Piece Live Action series manga adaption appears to be the most likely route with some influences from the anime.

The key visual looks promising with picture-perfect costume designs and intricate detailing of the Going Merry ship. We also see news about coco flying in the background.

Netflix One Piece Live Action series trailer is yet to be released, which eventually will provide more clarity on where the series could be heading.

In a video message shown at Jump Festa 2018’s One Piece stage panel on Sunday, producer Marty Adelstein stated that the live-action Hollywood television series adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga will start with the East Blue arc and will “broaden from there.” Adelstein also stated that the series promises to create “a true One Piece” after he discussed the project with Oda personally.

From picture leaks of the sets, the One Piece Live Action series will cover the East Blue Saga wherein the Arlong Park and Baratie arcs are referenced.

The first season will most likely feature a good chunk of Luffy s’ backstory, with prominent scenes from Shanks and Garp. Also, the anime s’ pacing has been criticized for being too slow in the first 50 episodes, which covers the Blue Saga arc incidentally.

Considering season one only has ten episodes, we probably won’t see the rest of the crew members, such as Chopper, Nico Robin, Franky, and Brook.

The first episode is titled “Romance Down,” directed by Marc Jobs and written by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda.

Tomorrow, Studios, a partnership between producer Marty Adelstein (Prison Break, Teen Wolf) and ITV Studios, is producing the live-action series.

Matt Owens (Luke Cage, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) is the show’s writer, while Steven Maeda, Becky Clements, and One Piece manga writer Eiichiro Oda are the executive producers. Nicole Hirsch Whitaker is the cinematographer.

Oda himself commented in July that his condition for the project was that the project “will never betray the fans who have supported me for 20 years.”

The show’s production officially kicked off in 2020 in Cape Town, but it was delayed due to the pandemic, and it resumed in March 2021.

According to an interview with KFTV, there will be multiple underwater segments in Netflix’s One Piece:

“Netflix’s forthcoming pirate adventure series One Piece – We have been filming at Cape Town Film Studios in the deep-water tank. There are various scenes that require VFX elements, and scenes with key actors underwater.”
