The premise is set in period where humans and demons are in continuous war with each other which causes destruction on both sides. To stop this demolition, demon King Anos Voldigoad decides to give up his life in hope to reborn in to a peaceful future.
200 years later, Anos is reborn into a world where people are waiting for Demon King s’ return but the magical level has decreased drastically. Furthermore, he notices many rumours speculating false information on his legacy which gives him the title of Misfit.
Anos enrols in a Demon Academy to discover the pretender’s identity and make the demonkind realize that their king is back.
The first season of Misfit of Demon King Academy had mixed reviews, with fans complaining about the overuse of overpowered MC tropes. At the same time, some enjoyed the plot and Anos as the lead.

Despite the erratic schedule of anime releases due to the pandemic, the first season of Misfit Demon King Academy aired from 4th July 2020 to 26th September 2020 for 13 episodes.
On 24th February 2021, the anime official Twitter confirmed Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 will come out in 2023.

It was earlier announced that the second season would be released in two cours, but the creators have yet to confirm the Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 release date.
The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 is currently airing, much to the delight of its fans. The series premiered on January 8, 2023, and has already released six episodes, with the 7th episode set to air on March 4, 2023.
For those unaware of split cour, studios often release episodes in different blocks with a break in between, which gives enough time for production. Keeping that in mind, Misfit of Demon King Academy season 2 will contain a double cour of 13 episodes.

The anime adaption of Misfit of Demon King Academy is based on the light novel written by Shu. It began serialization in Dengeki Bunko by ASCII Media Works in March 2018. As of September 2022, the light novel has been collected in 12 volumes, with the latest issue coming out on 10th August 2022.
The light novel Volume nine sold 8993 copies from the week of 5th April to 11th April 2021. It was also ranked 3rd in Japan’s Weekly Top 10 Light Novel Ranking from 4th October to 10th October.

A manga adaption of Misfit of Demon King Academy is illustrated by Kayaharuka and began serialization in Manga Up in July 2018. The manga has been collected into four volumes, with the latest issue coming out on 5th March 2021.The manga had to be cancelled after the unfortunate passing of Kayaharuka due to illness.

MISFIT OF DEMON KING SEASON 2 PLOT
In the final episode of Misfit of Demon King season one, “Let the World Be Filled with Love,” Anos finds out why Lay rewrote history after his death.
Anos begins to fight Lay and knocks off seven of his sources, but Anos asks Lay to beat him to curb humans’ hatred of demons. We also see Jerga arriving in his sacred Magic form and confronting Lay and Musha. He is stopped by Anos, who reincarnates him after the battle.
The episode ends with Anos reuniting with Masha and Sasha as everyone returns to the Demon Realm.
Season one adapted the first three novels of light novel and Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 will begin by covering the Great Spirit Arc. Considering the second season will be two cour releases, 6 volumes will be adapted in season two instead of three.
In the Great Spirit Arc, we will see the backstory of Demon King Avos Dilhevia, who Gods created after they took advantage of Kanon s’ plan 2,000 years ago.

Misfit of Demon King Academy is directed by Shin Oonuma and Masafumi Tamura. The series is written by Jin Tanaka and scripted by Jin Tanaka. Characters are designed by Kazuyuki Shizuma, and the music is composed by Keiji Inai. Animation is developed by Silver Link.
On 12th December 2021, the anime s’ official website announced a change in the lead voice cast, with Tatsuhisa Suzuki being replaced by Yuichiro Umehara.
