Kotaro s’ neighbour is the mangaka Shin Karino who can’t seem to write a decent story and lives off of a prize money. When Shin knows about Kotaro s’ predicament, he takes it upon himself to help the four-year-old and act as an elder brother.
The other tenants include Mizuki, a nightclub hostess with her fair share of money and guy problems. Isamu Tamaru, the yakuza-looking thug that seems to have an odd attachment with Kotaro. He is also divorced and not on speaking terms with his son, which makes him behave like a father figure to Kotaro.
Kotaro Lives Alone focuses on the journey of this four-year-old and his adult friends, who are not just tenants but also a small unrelated family to him.

KOTARO LIVES ALONE SEASON 2 PLOT
In the final episode of Kotaro Lives Alone season one, we find Kotaro s’ behavior improves as he accepts Karino as his guardian and family.
Kotaro and Karino visit the former s’ grandparent’s graves, wherein Kotaro reveals her mother s’ name as Sayori Wamiya, who bought to the cemetery once.
Karino notices a nearby grave with the name of Kotaro s’ mother’s name on it and realizes that he doesn’t know of his mother s’ death. Karino recollects himself and tells Kotaro that they can revisit the cemetery together.
Karino is overwhelmed by the discovery but wants to make sure Kotaro remains oblivious to his mother s’ death. He wants Kotaro to pass on his memory to his mother every time they visit the grave.
The episode ends with both returning home and Kotaro speaking in his feudal lord voice and declaring Karino as his subject.
While the ending of season one was a tear-jerker and fulfilling, there is no doubt most fans would like to see Kotaro back.
If the show gets renewed, we can expect the Kotaro- Karino relationship to transform into a father-son bond. We hope to get more of Kotaro s’ past and, at the same time, his current development.
