The story follows Kimihiko Kimizuka, who has always been in and around trouble. Kimihiko claims his birth came with conditions that invited and put him in troublesome situations.
These situations include being forced to join a flash mob during a walkout, stumbling across an underworld transaction between drug dealers, and being at the site of crime scenes often enough sometimes to be considered a suspect.
On one such fateful day, Kimihiko is kidnapped and forced to carry a suitcase on an international flight, wherein he meets a woman named Siesta.
Siesta calls herself a “legendary detective” and ropes in Kimihiko as his sidekick to prevent the plane from getting hijacked, only to find out that an underworld organization is involved in the hijacking.
This unlikely friendship starts a grand adventure that spans three years, wherein Kimihiko and Siesta work together and solve many criminal cases.
Unfortunately, Siesta passes away, which leaves Kimihiko distraught, he continues to solve new cases with her memory intact and finds comfort that the detective is already dead.
The Detective Is Already Dead season one had mixed reviews as compared to other fantasy releases like Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken 2nd Season Part 2, Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S, Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu and Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenkiwas never reached the heights that many expected after an impressive first episode.
Despite the low reviews and ratings, The Detective Is Already Dead had takers who wondered if there would be a second installment.

The Detective Is Already Dead light novel is written by Nigoju and illustrated by Umibozu. It began publication under Media Factory under the MF Bunko J imprint in November 2019.
As of writing, seven volumes of the light novel have been published, with the latest issue released on 25th August 2022, while Volume 8 is scheduled to release on 25th January 2023.
The light novel series won the 15th MF Bunko J newcomer award in 2019.Following the anime’s debut, sales for the light novel and manga series skyrocketed in Japan, selling 20,000 copies by the first week of July 2021.
The light novel series placed third and first in July and August 2021, respectively, on the Oricon monthly light novel chart.

In the finale of The Detective Is Already Dead Season one, “Those Dizzying Three Years I Spent with You,” Kimizuka is hit by a Chameleon before the attack but gets pierced through the sky.
Siesta wields a weapon in Natsunagi s’ body while Kimizuka reminisces memories in the sky from 10.000 meters.
Nagisa doesn’t feel confident about her new identity as the next legendary detective, but with Kimizuka, Yui, and Char by her side, she is willing to try her best.
The first season covered three volumes from the manga, which means The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 will begin by adapting volume 4.
In a 2020 interview, Nigoju also said that the main story would “need at least five or six more books” to reach a satisfying conclusion, indicating that The Detective is Already Dead anime series could consist of up to four seasons.
The second season will pick up from where season one began with new adventures of Kimizuka and Natsunagi 10,000 meters in the sky.
Kimizuka wants to revive Siesta as well, for which, along with Natsunagi, he will travel to London to find and defeat SPES s’ leader.
