Netflix: The Witcher Season 3 Will Repeat Season 1 Geralt & Ciri Mistake
The Witcher Season 3 has revealed that the show is going to repeat the season 1 mistake of separating Ciri and Geralt.
The Witcher Series, currently the most popular fantasy franchise on Netflix, is based on the novels written by a Polish author, Andrzej Sapkowski. The novels were written in novels, and the Witcher series on Netflix is the English version of the Witcher novels.
The Witcher Season 1, released in December 2019, introduced the characters of the Witcher world to the audience. There are three main characters, Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Cirilla of Cintra, Ciri, around whom the whole story revolves.
The Witcher Season 1 was liked a lot but was criticised because of its confusing timeline and the fact that Geralt and Ciri couldn’t meet. The Witcher Season 1 did disappoint a lot of people because it was based on Sapkowski’s short stories.
The Witcher Season 2, released in December 2021, after two years gap because of the global pandemic, was praised a lot more than season 1 because of its less confusing timeline and more horrifying monsters. However, season 2 does get out of the source material, but the plotline turned out to be amazing. The Witcher Season 2 focused on the growing father-daughter relationship of Geralt and Ciri. It started with both of them travelling to Geralt’s hometown Kaer Morhen. Geralt takes Ciri for training, thinking that might lead to control of her powers, but it doesn’t. And Yennefer, who was shown without power throughout the whole season but helped Ciri control her powers.
The Witcher Season 3: Will Make the Same Mistake Like Season 1
The new casting details have shared some hints about the danger of repeating the same mistake of season 1 in season 3. The end of Witcher Season 2 showed a positive start of the trio becoming a family, in spite of Yennefer’s betrayal. Netflix disclosed the new casting details, which hinted that this dysfunctional family of Ciri, Geralt and Yennefer won’t be explored in Witcher Season 3. Along with that, it confirmed that season 3 would be a retelling of the witcher book based on ‘Time of Contempt’.
According to the book, Ciri, Geralt and Yennefer go to Aretuza, where Yennefer was trained in Magic. Where Ciri transports herself behind the Nilfgaardian lines, at which point Geralt meets one of the new characters, Milva and Ciri meet Mistle. Unfortunately, the trio becoming a family won’t be staying together for long in Season 3.
Well, if we look at the bright side, the Witcher writers never remain true to the source material, and if they keep Ciri and Geralt together along with Ciri’s blind Nilfgaardian line, which is equally important for the narrative, the story will go in a different direction.
In the Witcher Season 2, Ciri mentions Geralt about her feeling that she could burn the entire world, which is exactly the same as written in the book ‘Time of Contempt’. So there is a possibility that it will follow the source material, and Ciri and Geralt’s time together won’t be shown as long as expected. On Netflix, The Witcher Season 3 will only be covering the trio’s time together only for a brief moment, after which they’ll split.
