Thor Love & Thunder: Why Mjolnir Has Blue Marks & Cracks
The next part of Thor, Thor Love & Thunder, has brought back the old hammer, Mjolnir, but this time it has a different appearance.
An upcoming American superhero film, Thor Love & Thunder, is based on the Marvel Comics, written by Stan Lee. The God of Thunder, Thor, is a character in the comics who lives in another realm named Asgard but travels to Earth for various purposes.
This film is going to be the 29th of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is intended to be a sequel to Thor: Ragnarok, released in 2017.
In the next part, Thor Love & Thunder, the leading cast will include Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson; Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman; and Gorr, The God Butcher, played by Christian Bale.
Thor, the character, is played by Chris Hemsworth in his own leading as well as the Avengers series. The last movie in MCU, including Thor, was Avengers: Endgame, released in 2019, where the whole world is fighting with the greatest villain of all, Thanos. The next movie, Thor 4, will take a little from the Avengers: Endgame, where after winning a war with Thanos, Thor attempts to find inner peace, but this superhero can’t leave his responsibilities and give himself the time, so he must come back to action. Thor, Valkyrie, Korg and Jane Foster are going to fight another villain named Gorr, The God Butcher.
The character, Thor, is popular for his hammer. In the film Thor: Ragnarok, he believed that his beloved hammer, Mjolnir, was the key to his success, and without it, he is nothing. However, the movie’s events led to the destruction of Mjolnir by his sister, Hella, which left him shaken by loss. That was an eye-opener for him because he realised that the hammer only served as a channel for his power.
However, the next part, Thor Love & Thunder, confirms that Mjolnir, Thor’s old hammer, is going to return to his successor, the person who is worthy of the power of Thor himself, but it has a different appearance this time. Well, the old one was shattered to pieces which obviously will lead to a different appearance. Mjolnir is no longer perfect, and it looks like its surface has been put back from the broken pieces, which is showing the cracks on its face and from the cracks, one can see the blue lightning shining out of it.
It is a general assumption that Jane Foster is going to reforge the hammer, Mjolnir, which was broken in Ragnarok. However, the visual design of the hammer indicates that there is a different case in which the blue energy in the hammer is holding its shattered pieces back together, which explains why the cracks are visible.
Thor Love & Thunder: How Does Jane Foster Fix Mjolnir?
An interesting question is how the hammer, Mjolnir, is going to be reforged in the next part, Thor 4. In the Marvel comics, the hammer, Mjolnir, was destroyed too many times, most notably the time of James Arson’s Thor run, which is serving as the source of inspiration for this arc. Every time Mjolnir was reforged, sometimes at great cost, and once where Thor used the sun itself to reforge Mjolnir. We don’t think Jane would possess the power to reforge the hammer. And there’s no hint of the dwarf, Etri, who made the hammer, would be in the next part or not. And keeping that in mind, the possibility of Mjolnir’s enchantment still holds.
In the first film of Thor, released in 2011, the Odin put an enchantment on Mjolnir, that whoever is worthy can hold the hammer. Whenever someone who is deemed worthy was present near the hammer, it would grant the power of Thor; like in Avengers: Endgame, Captain America was worthy and picked up the hammer, which in return gave him the power of Thor.
The fans assumed that the enchantment was destroyed when Hella, Thor’s sister, destroyed the hammer, but it’s possible that it came back when it was retrieved. If that were the case, the presence of someone worthy who will hold Mjolnir would grant the powers of Thor, and the reformation of Mjolnir will grant Jane Foster the magic in Thor Love & Thunder. Everything will be revealed in the premiere; till then, stay tuned for the latest updates on Marvel Cinematic Universe.
