Upon his arrival, Kazuya explained the Kingdom s’ apathy and dire state due to their inability to pay off the war tributes to the Gran Chaos Empire.
Kazuya is summoned in order to improve the situation and save the Elfrieden Kingdom from being handed over to the Gran Chaos Empire.
Although initially skeptical over the challenge, Kazuya remains strong-willed and refuses to lie down and accept defeat. He convinces Albert Elfrieden that it’s possible to pay off the war tributes by raising money, implementing policies, building a stronger army, and improving the kingdom s’ overall economy.
Impressed by the zest and realism of Kazuya, Albert relinquishes the thrones and makes him the new King of Elfrieden. Albert also proposes Kazuya s’ marriage to her daughter Liscia.
Can the new king of Elfrieden improve the situation and become the hero his kingdom needs is the central plot of the show.
The first season of How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom had mixed reception from the fandom as many found the “hero saves civilization” trope over-farmed with poor execution.

In the finale of season one, “Ahead, I See No Ancestors; Behind, I Find No Followers,” Kazuya quizzes Albert and Elisha on why he was chosen to save the kingdom.
Albert explains that in an alternate timeline, Kazuya was made the Prime Minister, and as a result, his life was in danger by the nobles who eventually killed him, leading to the doom of the Elfrieden Kingdom.
Elisha reveals her secret power wherein she can send memories to a past self and use this ability. She transferred her elder memories to her younger self which Albert later received.
The episode ends with Kazuya confessing her love to Liscia, and as part of the new year’s resolution, he vows to take the kingdom into the future.
