Each year numerous rom-com animes are released, and Winter 2022 was no different as the anime adaption of Wataru Momose s manga series Romantic Killer hit Netflix.

The plot follows Anzu Hoshino, who only lives for video games, chocolate, and her cat. Unlike other high school girls, Anzu has no interest or time for romance and can be considered as an anti-heroin in the story.

While playing a poorly coded otome game, a wizard named Riri appears from the screens and calls Anzu ‘subject one,’ i.e., she will be the first person to experience a harem dating game in real life.

The world where Riri comes from is founded on giving dreams and hopes to children and collecting their pure hearts as energy in return.

Anzu rejects her requests, but Riri confiscates her three greatest desires, forcing Anzu to play along.

Riri organizes multiple situations and suitors for Anzu to romance; however, she resits most of their charms.

Can Anzu return to her old life and get back her favorite things amidst the romantic traps of Riri is the central plot of the show.

Romantic Killer Season One was a relative success, and fans who enjoyed the anime are wondering if there will be a second installment or not.

WHAT IS THE ROMANTIC KILLER SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE?

Romantic Killer Season One aired on 27th October 2022 for 12 episodes on Netflix.

As of writing, there is no update from either Netflix or studio DOMERICA on the renewal of Romantic Killer Season 2.

As mentioned earlier, Romantic Killer was an above-average rom-com series and consequently found itself 103 days in Netflix s’ top 10 TV shows in Japan.

If we look at its IMDB user episode rating, it’s clear the anime managed to maintain intrigue and interest throughout its run.

While the reviews and ratings are in favor, a crucial factor for renewal will be the availability of studio and source material.

Unfortunately, Romantic Killer Season One adapted all four volumes of the manga, thus leaving no source material for producing Romantic Killer Season 2.

Although there may not be source material left, it does not mean the anime has come to an end especially considering the ending of season one.

The anime ends on the same cliffhanger as the manga, the revelation that Anzu’s three favorite items have been returned to her, video games, chocolate, and her cat, but only temporarily. 

If Anzu is still single by the end of high school, she will lose all three forever!

Thus, there is a good chance that once sufficient chapters are available, Netflix and studio DOMERICA greenlit the renewal for Romantic Killer Season 2.

However, it could be a multiyear wait before we receive an update on the Romantic Killer Season 2 trailer and the Romantic Killer Season 2 release date.

ROMANTIC KILLER MANGA CATCHUP

Romantic Killer manga is written and illustrated by Wataru Momose. It began serialization in Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ website from 30th July 2019 to 2nd June 2020.

The manga has been collected into 4 volumes, with the latest issue released on 4th September 2020.

The series was the first-place winner of the second of Shonen Jump’s Vertical Scroll Manga Awards. In 2020, the series ranked 12th in the Next Manga Awards in the web manga category.

ROMANTIC KILLER SEASON 2 PLOT

In the finale of Romantic Killer Season One, “Last Story,” Anzu gets a scratch on the brow from Yukana, and before she can cause any more harm, Tsukasa comes racing to protect her, furiously denouncing her activities. 

Yukana is captured. However, Tsukasa’s dad faults him. Enraged, Anzu confronts him and brings Tsukasa back home. 

Hijiri, whose father utilizes Yukana’s uncle, ensures he doesn’t conceal her wrongdoings once more, so Yukana is detained. 

Yet again, RiRi shows up before Anzu as Riho, kissing her brow while admitting affection to her before just disappearing. Sometime after that, Riri menacingly visits Yukana in her jail cell. 

News then shows up that Yukana has lost long periods of memories and has no clue about who Tsukasa is.

Anzu’s folks get back with games, chocolate, and Momohiko. With her three loves returned, Anzu ponders where Riri went. 

That evening, Tsukasa tells Junta that he is infatuated with Anzu. A Cupid named Kate shows up before Anzu to supplant Riri. However, Tsukasa and Junta coincidentally see her, so Kate and Anzu uncover everything. 

Anzu’s folks return to America, and Tsukasa and Junta keep living with Anzu. 

Riri reports the Affection Cupids have concluded Anzu should pick a beau prior to graduating secondary everyday schedule will lose her games, chocolate, and Momohiko for all time, with Anzu proclaiming she will will not allow that to occur. 

In the meantime, Kate is assigned to another human needing romantic assistance; the amnesiac Yukana.

Since there is no source material, it’s not clear what Romantic Killer Season 2 characters and their plotlines would follow.

Romantic Killer Season 2 would most likely carry on from where season one ended as Anzu navigates her relationship with the boys upon Riri s’ return.

And we cannot forget the last scene of the season 1 finale when Kate the wizard finds out her new assignment involves Yukana. Will Yukana have a chance at finding love?
