The Witcher Season 3 Needs To Answer These 7 Questions

The Witcher Season 2 ended with some revelations, which led to many questions from the fans. The next one, The Witcher Season 3, should answer all the fans’ questions.

The Witcher Series on Netflix was released in the year 2019, which introduced the concept of Witcher in English, which was originally written in Polish by Andrzej Sapkowski. Based on Sapkowski’s witcher books, the narrative of the series presented the world with various interesting characters on the ‘Continent.’

The three main characters, the heart of the show, are Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher, played by Henry Cavill; Yennefer of Vengerberg, a powerful mage on the Continent, played by Anya Chalotra; and a child with no family alive who has elder blood running through her veins, Princess Cirilla of Cintra, Ciri, played by Freya Allan.

The Witcher Season 1 showcased all the characters growing through various timelines and destined to meet one another. All of these three characters are struggling to find their place in a world full of beasts. Geralt, a Witcher, hunts monsters for a living, whereas Yennefer, who was shown physically disabled in the beginning, cured herself through magic. Princess Cirilla of Cintra, Ciri, was set on a path by her grandmother Queen Calanthe to find Geralt as her destiny.

The Witcher Season 2 was released after two years, in December 2022, which started with the journey of Geralt and Ciri, who met at the end of Season 1. The journey of the father-daughter relationship began while traveling to Geralt’s hometown, Kaer Morhen. On the other side, Yennefer, the most powerful mage, was shown without magic throughout the series, who is struggling to find meaning in her life again.

The Witcher Season 2 ended with Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer, coming together and starting a journey away from Kaer Morhen, as because of Ciri, the place faced a lot of destruction and almost killed all the witchers present there. In the end, one of the biggest villains was revealed; the White Flame turned out to be Ciri’s dead father, Emhyr Var Emreis. While the trio was starting a new journey, on the other side, the whole Continent was planning to come after Ciri.

The Witcher Season 2 left the plot hanging with the official introduction of the biggest villains of the franchise. Because of this, the fans have so many questions to which they need answers through the next season, Witcher Season 3.

In the Witcher books and video games, it takes quite some time for the Wild Hunt to hunt Ciri. It is mentioned in the source material that The Wild Hunt has some of its own reasons to come after Ciri. The Witcher Season 2 only showed the Wild Hunt for a brief time when they were calling her to join their army.

Ciri’s powers are still growing, and she is going to explore a lot while trying to control them. So it is possible that the Wild Hunt will come after her, and luckily for her, Geralt and Yennefer will be by her side.

During her escape from Cintra, in the Witcher Season 1, Ciri unknowingly toppled some monoliths, which became a portal for monsters of other worlds to enter theirs. The strongest monster-hunters, Geralt and other Witchers, fought with some of the monsters from other worlds and managed to kill a few of them.

However, with more horrifying monsters shown in Witcher Season 2, it is a possibility that more of them will show up in Season 3. The Witcher Season 3 can focus on the traveling of monsters through monoliths as a part of its narrative.

So far, in Witcher Season 2, Vilgefortz is mainly after power, and in Witcher Season 3, it is a mystery what steps he will take to achieve it. Moreover, if the series follows the source material truly, Geralt and Ciri should become aware of this mage.

In the Witcher Season 1, apart from Geralt, a Witcher, only one Witcher was shown who died fighting the lost princess. In the Witcher Season 2, Geralt went to his home town Kaer Morhen, where a lot of his family was introduced, along with his father-like-mentor Vesemir, the oldest Witcher alive.

In the Witcher Season 2, with the help of Ciri, Vesemir, a Witcher, and Triss, a mage who specializes in magical potions, tried to make more Witchers but failed. Vesemir was grieving through the loss of so many Witchers and knew the recipe where Ciri’s blood was the key ingredient for it. It is unclear whether Triss and Vesemir were able to take Ciri’s blood as she agreed, but Geralt stopped them.

The biggest and most shocking reveal was at the end of Witcher Season 2, where the White Flame was shown, who turned out to be Ciri’s father, Duny. It is crystal clear that Duny is looking for her daughter, as Nilfgaardian Army has been trying to capture Ciri since season 1. In the Witcher Season 3, whether Emhyr Var Emreis is going to find his daughter, Ciri, or not is unclear.

In the source material, the Nilfgaardian Emperor, Emhyr var Emreis, planned to marry his own daughter and, at one point, thought of having a kid with her. The Witcher series can always change the character, Emhyr Var Emreis, but according to his previous actions, his character would be villainous in the Witcher Season 3.

Francesca Findabair, the leader of the elves, has gone through a great loss, as her long-waited child was killed in the Witcher Season 2. When her daughter was killed, she became furious and murdered multiple children in Redania through magic. It would be a miracle if her actions didn’t have any consequences.

The most portable option would be a war between Redania and the Elves, who still are somewhat supported by Nilfgaard. In the video games, Nilfgaard and Redania fought with each other, and in the series, Francesca’s actions can lead to this war.

In the Witcher books, Geralt, the Witcher, and Yennefer, the mage, have shown a strong connection with each other. However, in the series, it seems like Geralt’s and Yennefer’s relationship is going through a rough patch, which can be difficult to overcome. Yennefer’s betrayal made Geralt lose his trust in her.

In the Witcher Season 3, Yennefer can try and potentially turn things around by teaching Ciri how to control her powers. But in the Witcher books, Yennefer never betrayed Ciri or Geralt. A new twist can lead to anything, which will be revealed in The Witcher Season 3.
