Why Makkari Doesn’t Run In Slo-Mo In Eternals (But DCEU’s Flash Does)
Makkari has not been seen running slo-mo in Eternals. Let’s know the reason behind it through this article.
Introduction
Marvel Studios got their speedster in Eternals featuring Makkari (Lauren Ridloff); however, she’s not running in slow-motion similar to Batman’s Flash (Ezra Miller), with a legit reason.
Insights
The Eternals better described as Cosmics, will be showed as the main characters in series.
The year 2021 was the time that Marvel Studios released two origins-based stories.
The first movie debuted its first Asian lead character, Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), in Destin Cretton’s Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings and came to an end with the introduction of a brand new team in Chloe’s Eternals.
They are Eternals are immortals that have been created by Celestials and brought to Earth to protect kind humans against the devils.
Although they’ve lived with humans for hundreds of decades, the Eternals have never been seen before the time Emergence was observed.
The team consists of 10 Eternals and, even though they share common capabilities, each has a distinct ability. For Makkari, the ability is super-speed.
Due to her capabilities, comparing her to DC’s most popular Speedster Flash is a natural comparison. Although they share the same abilities, they translate it to screen is different.
Miller’s Scarlet Speedster runs in slow-motion, resulting in amazing images on Justice League, and Makkari’s Ridloff doesn’t. Instead, she’s seen flying through the crowds at full speed, and her super-speed is displayed in real-time.
To Marvel Studios, it was deliberate to separate Makkari and Flash. When Screen Rant visited the production of Eternals, the producer Nate Moore admitted to this and said they wanted to narrate the super-speed “visually by using distinct ways”.
Makkari is fuelled by some great cosmic particles, said by Nate Moore.
So they took that into “the auspicious particles of the cosmic universe around her” and added that it was the “bleeding edges of the concussive sonic blast she uses at the time of battle to make Makkari a little different from that which you’ve previously seen”
Makkari wasn’t the first speedster to be part of the MCU.
As with the Eternals’ Makkari, Quicksilver did not run in exaggerated slow-motion as Flash did in the DCEU.
At certain times, however, to make sure that viewers are aware of what’s happening, the speed of his surroundings decreases while he runs at what seems normal.
A different Marvel character who was a speedster is Fox’s Quicksilver, which was played in the role of Evan Peters.
After his cult scenes in the kitchen of X-Men: Days of Future Past, it was almost a classic action scene for the series, with variations appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Bottom Line
There are a variety of rumors suggesting that Quicksilver (whichever variant) will return to the MCU.
Currently, Eternals Makkari is the only franchise’s speedster.
As she progresses in her journey, expect to see comparisons with DCEU’s Flash, the main character in his first movie in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, which is set to continue.
