Mirabel, Encanto: Theory of About Her Gift Explained in Detail
The whole family with magical gifts, but one is without Mirabel. One theory states that she might have done this to herself.
The family received their gifts through a ceremony led by Abuela Alma, Mirabel’s grandmother. In the ceremony, everyone has to touch the magical candle (the origin from which everything magical started) and then reach the door, which will reveal a unique gift for everyone.
One fan theory on Reddit shares one perspective focuses on one detail wherein the Encanto movie, Mirabel wipes her hands off after touching the candle, which will explain why she didn’t get a magical gift from the door.
It’s a very small detail; however, it is notable. The Encanto movie depicts the ceremony when Mirabel’s cousin, Antonio, is big enough to receive his gift. The date has come when the whole town is gathered to see what unique gift Antonio will get. Antonio has a great bond with Mirabel and asks her to accompany him on the path, and he receives the gift, which is talking to the animals. Antonio didn’t wipe his hands off during the ceremony after touching the candle.
Along with Antonio’s ceremony, Mirabel’s ceremony was shown too. When Mirabel is accompanying Antonio, she goes into the nostalgia of her own ceremony. One noticeable difference between both the ceremonies is Mirabel wiping her hands off her dress after touching the candle.
The fan theory was one perspective; however, there are other possibilities too. The Madrigal family doesn’t understand Mirabel’s gifts and always telling her not to ruin anything. Mirabel tries her best throughout the movie to prove herself in front of the family. But when Abuela blames the destruction on Mirabel, when she’s trying her best to stop it, Mirabel realizes that she will never be good enough for Abuela.
Mirabel confronts Abuela and tells her only magic matters to her and the destruction happening in Encanto is because of Abuela. Later, Abuela sits with Mirabel and tells her struggle and how she got the miracle in the first place. In the end, Abuela realizes that everyone in the family is a miracle and builds up the home altogether. When opening the door of the home, Mirabel receives a knob from Antonio, who has made it especially for her. While opening the door, everyone gets their magic back.
Mirabel wiping her hands off, was giving up on her gifts. But her destiny, Abuela, led her to the magic whether she had waxy hands or not.
