Grand Blue Season 2: Renewal Status + Release Date Predictions
Grand Blue Season 2, will it be renewed?
Sports-based slice-of-life animes are usually based on field games such as football, hockey, basketball, volleyball, and baseball.
But aquatic sports such as swimming or diving aren’t really the popular choice for creators, with only a handful of series hitting the small screen.
So when the anime adaption of Grand Blue Kenji Inoue s’ manga series, Grand Blue, was announced, there was excitement amidst fans of swimming/diving.
The story follows Iori Kitahara, who is a freshman who has moved to the coastal town of Izu, wherein he takes residence at his uncle s’ scuba diving shop known as Grand Blue.
Iori dreams of having a normal college experience, but his life changes when he meets the members of a local diving club, Peek a Boo.
Upperclassmen Shinji Tokita and Ryuujirou Kotobuki suck Iori into their club and thus get him involved in their antics involving alcohol, parties, and overall living a carefree life.
Despite his disdain, Iori spends most of his days intoxicated, naked, and partying with fellow club members who also teach him the wonders of diving into the ocean and seas.
However, this behavior causes him to be despised by his cousin Chisa Kotegawa, who comes in at the very wrong time.
Determined, Iori is still hoping to get his dream college life, but will things go smoothly this time, or will he get into trouble again is the central plot of the show.
Grand Blue season one was received with positive reviews and ratings, but almost five years since its release, fans are wondering if there will be a second installment or not.

WHAT IS THE GRAND BLUE SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE?
Grand Blue season one aired from 14th July 2019 to 29th September 2018 for 12 episodes.
As of writing, there is no update from studio Zero-G on the renewal of Grand Blue Season 2.
|Grand Blue Season 1||14th July 2019|
|Grand Blue Season 2||Yet to be Announced|
Production studios consider various financial and commercial metrics before announcing a renewal.
The disc sales for Grand Blue did not go very well, it sold only 1,699 units, and that number is far from the target.
When evaluated in terms of disc sales, a new season is quite unlikely. Overlord season 3, which sold 7,222 units, and Banana Fish, which sold 7,944 units, were the other anime that went on sale during the same period.
Grand Blue Season one was, however, the top rated slice of life anime of Summer 2018 and was only behind shonen series like Attack On Titans, Overlord, and Banana Fish in the ratings.
Fans enjoyed the comedy aspect of the series, which also portrayed diving adventures. Critics reviews and ratings were mainly positive, as evidenced by its IMDB s’ user episode rating.
|Grand Blue Episode 1||7.9|
|Grand Blue Episode 2||7.8|
|Grand Blue Episode 3||7.8|
|Grand Blue Episode 4||8.0|
|Grand Blue Episode 5||7.9|
|Grand Blue Episode 6||7.8|
|Grand Blue Episode 7||8.2|
|Grand Blue Episode 8||8.3|
|Grand Blue Episode 9||8.0|
|Grand Blue Episode 10||8.0|
|Grand Blue Episode 11||8.3|
|Grand Blue Episode 12||8.2|
While the Grand Blue isn’t cancelled, fans have been somewhat bemused about why such a popular anime is yet to get a sequel.
Currently, Studio Zero-G has two ongoing projects, namely The Ice Guy and his Cool Female Colleague and Farming Life in Another World.
Sometimes, studios develop series to increase the sales of the source material, which in this case is the Grand Blue manga.
A live-action film directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa was released on 7th August 2020 for the explicit purpose of increasing the manga sales.
Nevertheless, the production schedule looks fairly open for the latter part of the year; hence it could be a good time to give the fans Grand Blue Season 2.
If Studio Zero-G does revisit the series for a sequel, we can expect Grand Blue Season 2 trailer and Grand Blue Season 2 release date by summer 2023.

GRAND BLUE SEASON 2 PLOT
In the finale of the Grand Blue season, one “ Otori” Peek-a-Boo members decide to go deep sea diving.
Iori is forced to swim in the shallow end for not finishing his test and faces constant ridicule from Kohei.
Chisa stays with Iori for comfort, which is feeling seasick. Iori tells Chisa that although there is a missing license, he enjoys diving.
After being banned by the restaurant, Shinji and Ryujiro decide to hold their own Otori, wherein everyone will drink from a mixed alcohol pot.
Iori and Kohei failed to stomach the alcohol level and ended up giving in. Aina and Iori go out to fetch more booze for the group as the former reminds Iori to wear his clothes.
The episode ends with Iori and Kohei reflecting on their time in the diving club as Aina quickly tracks them down.
Grand Blue season one covered the first 21 chapters and five volumes of the manga which means Grand Blue season 2 will pick up from Volume 6: Chapter 22.
Amidst the many new Grand Blue Season 2 characters, we will be introduced to Shiori Kitahara, Iori’s little sister.
Shiori is a middle schooler who is in line to take her parents’ inn but she doesn’t want it.
While Shiori appears sweet and well-mannered on the outside, inwardly, she is manipulative and spies on Iori using a nanny cam.
Iori and Chisa s’ relationship will also progress as the pair watch over the house during a stormy night.
Iori finds himself bumping heads with professors as the semester comes to a close, and during the summer break, he reunites with Sakurako Busujima, a college girl he met during the Oumi Women’s University school festival. Now, they’re co-workers at a diner, and she submits him to sadistic work training and hazing rituals.
