BLUE LOCK SEASON 2: RENEWAL STATUS + RELEASE DATE PREDICTIONS

Blue Lock Season 2, renewed or canceled?

Football or Soccer (for our trans-Atlantic cousins) is by far the most popular sport, with an estimated 3.5 billion fans worldwide.

Football, commonly called by many “the beautiful game,” similar to other sports, always had a touching point with anime as the likes of Inazuma Eleven, Days, Ao Ashi, and Be Blues! Ao Ni Nare is some of the top-rated football-based anime series.

While the shows, as mentioned earlier, are hits in their own right, Fall 2022 would be remembered as a pinnacle for a series based on football as the anime adaption of Muneyuki Kaneshiro s’ manga Blue Lock hit the small screens.

The premise is set in the aftermath of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, wherein Japan s’ national team finished 16th and was eliminated from the competition. Following the exit, Japan Football Union hires Ego Jinpachi, who is tasked to scout and prepare a training program for the next FIFA World Cup 2022.

The story follows a young striker Yoichi Isagi whose team is moments away from getting knocked out as they trailed 1-0. During the final play, Yoichi receives the ball and opts to pass the ball to his teammate who misses thus losing the game eventually.

Isagi returns home contemplating whether he should have taken the chance to score himself and not heeded to his coach s’ words of playing as a team. Once home, Isagi finds an invitation from Japan s’ football union asking him to report for a special training program as he was chosen as one of Japan s’ 300 best U-18 strikers.

When he arrives at the location, Ego Jinpachi explains the Blue Lock training program, designed to find and develop, through arbitrary tests, the ultimate star striker. Ego also adds that those who fail the Blue Lock training camp will be banned from representing the national team.

Can Isagi compel himself to follow this ruthless, unethical training program, or will he be one of the 299 young strikers whose dream will be crushed is the central plot of the show.

Blue Lock season one has been a massive success since its premiere, so much so fans of the show are already demanding a second season. So, the question is, has Blue Lock been renewed for season two?

Production Studios consider various financial and consumer metrics before announcing a renewal. In addition, the availability of source material is another contributing factor for future seasons.

Sports anime have slowly but steadily gained notoriety over the years, with series like Haikyuu, Yuri on Ice, and Sk8 the Infinity taking over the mainstream releases like Isekai, Supernatural, Shonen, and Slice of Life.

Blue Lock is not only one of the best sports anime but also became the best-ranked non-sequel overtaking Chainsaw Man.

IGN and GameRant listed Blue Lock as one of the must-watch Fall 2022 Anime, and according to MyAnimeList, Blue Lock is the fourth highest-rated Fall release behind popular shows like Chainsaw Man, Spy x Family, Mob Psycho, and My Hero Academia.

Furthermore, the first season kept the viewers hooked throughout the first ten episode as evidenced by IMDB s’ user review rating, check below:

The series also significantly boosted viewership due to Japan s’ spirited performance at the FIFA World Cup 2022, wherein they beat World Champions like Germany and Spain before crashing out to Croatia in penalties in the Last 16.

The first season of Blue Lock was relatively faithful to the source material, with 3.5 chapters adapted per episode. Considering this pacing, it’s expected Blue Lock Episode 24 will end on Volume 11: Chapter 85 from the manga, leaving more than enough source material for the creators to produce a second season.

All in All, a renewal for Blue Lock Season 2 is inevitable, but when will it happen?

Studio 8Bit has some big projects under production, such as That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime Season 3 and The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3.

Hence, unless there is a sudden change in the production schedule, we can expect Blue Lock Season 2 trailer and Blue Lock Season 2 release date in Fall 2024.
