Detailed Episode Guide for The Witcher Season 3: Vol 1
Here is the detailed episodes guide for The Witcher Season 3: Vol 1.
With several weeks remaining before Netflix unveils Volume 1 of The Witcher’s third season, we believe it would be beneficial to offer a small glimpse into each episode and provide an overview of what to anticipate from Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, and Joey Batey in this upcoming installment.
Although Henry Cavill’s departure from The Witcher is imminent, his journey on the Continent is not yet concluded. The show’s upcoming third season will serve as his final portrayal of Geralt of Rivia.
The show’s creator envisions his exit as a grand and honorable farewell. What lies ahead for Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer as they navigate a world teeming with monsters, humans, and sorcerers? And who will bring their captivating tale to life on Netflix?
While we must exercise patience to obtain the complete picture, Netflix has already disclosed the episode titles for Season 3, Volume 1 of The Witcher.
The initial volume, set to be released on June 29th, will consist of five episodes bearing the titles Shaerrawedd, Unbound, Reunion, The Invitation, and The Art of Illusion. We eagerly anticipate discovering the essence and significance of each episode as they unfold before us.
Episode 1: “Shaerrawedd”
This particular character has been prominently featured in promotional materials, and we can expect to witness even more of them during the upcoming Netflix TUDUM event.
SFX Magazine discloses that an entire year has elapsed since the conclusion of Season 2 of The Witcher, and this year is depicted through a montage illustrating the activities of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer during that period.
While there are moments of joy, the relationship between Geralt and Yennefer is strained after the events of Season 2, leading him to employ the tactic of silence and refrain from communication for a particular duration.
We have previously discussed the connection between the mentioned matter and the “Dear Friend” letters in a previous report, so we encourage you to refer to that specific piece for further details.
In addition to the interpersonal conflicts, our protagonists face significant peril as they are relentlessly pursued by a powerful mage marked by a prominent scar. The trailer provides glimpses of the destructive impact this mage has had.
Simultaneously, within the Redanian court, our bard Jaskier is entangled in political intrigues and machinations. These circumstances eventually lead him to an impactful encounter with Prince Radovid of Redania. Nevertheless, as their journey continues, Jaskier will eventually reunite with Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer.
Returning to our main characters, they participate in the festive celebration known as Belleteyn, which revolves around fertility. However, their enjoyment is abruptly disrupted when a shaelmaar appears. Naturally, Geralt swiftly deals with the creature, but this occurrence sets the stage for the episode’s primary action sequence.
The episode climaxes with a thrilling battle at the ancient elven ruins known as Shaerrawedd, which gives the episode its title.
The fight, skillfully choreographed by the renowned Wolfgang Stegemann, is an extensive encounter involving multiple characters divided into three factions. Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, Jaskier, Yarpen, Francesca, Filavandrel, Dara, Gage, and Rience all play pivotal roles in this epic confrontation.
We can anticipate glimpses of the initial stages of this action sequence during Netflix’s TUDUM event.
Towards the episode’s conclusion, Geralt finally trusts Yennefer to look after Ciri, leading them to embark on separate missions.
Episode 2: “Unbound”
In the second episode of Season 3, Geralt of Rivia embarks on a critical mission to locate and neutralize Rience, who is ceaselessly chasing after Ciri. The tables are turned as Geralt, the once-vigilant hunter, is being pursued. However, the task could be easier, compelling Geralt to seek assistance from Codringher and Fenn.
During his quest, Geralt confronts a horrifying entity resulting from stitching together body parts from young women and girls, revealing the disturbing and twisted nature of its creator. This encounter proves to be even more unsettling than dealing with Rience.
This particular event leads to a scene in the trailer involving a cat, which adds an intriguing element to the unfolding narrative.
Meanwhile, Yennefer and Ciri embark on a journey towards Aretuza, where they have a significant encounter with a royal messenger, drawing inspiration from the original book.
In the same episode, we are introduced to the beloved sorceress Keira Metz, who holds a special place in the hearts of fans. In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt video game, Keira assumes the guise of a local “village witch.” However, in the series, Keira’s character takes an unexpected twist, showcasing a surprising trade.
Simultaneously, within the Redanian court, political plotting and scheming continue to unfold while Jaskier’s romantic relationship with Prince Radovid further develops. The bard even serenades the prince with a heartfelt song, adding to the intriguing dynamics at the court.
Episode 3: “Reunion”
In the third episode of The Witcher Season 3, the series attempts to align itself more closely with the events depicted in the books, albeit acknowledging the deviation Season 2 had taken.
This episode delves into an exciting chapter from Time of Contempt, focusing on Yennefer and Ciri’s presence in Gors Velen. Notable scenes include the bathhouse sequence involving Yennefer, Margarita, and other sorceresses, Ciri’s exploration of the town alongside Fabio Sachs’s encounters with a wyvern, and the enigmatic Wild Hunt. All of these elements are faithfully represented.
Meanwhile, within the Redanian court, tensions rise, and the atmosphere becomes more intense, adding further intrigue to the unfolding storyline.
During this period, Geralt accompanies a girl he rescued in the previous episode, who is deeply affected by trauma, to seek the assistance of a healer. We had previously discussed the details and significance of this event and the girl’s identity about a year ago when an audition for this particular sequence was released.
After dealing with the aforementioned grim affair, Geralt comes to Ciri’s rescue just in the nick of time, saving her from the ethereal horse riders known as the Wild Hunt. This differs from the events in the books, where Yennefer fulfills this role.

Episode 4: “The Invitation”
In the fourth episode, the origins of the Thanedd ball are explored. Yennefer dedicates herself to resolving a lingering plotline from Season 2, and preparations for the ball commence.
Meanwhile, Geralt, Ciri, Jaskier, and Valdo Marx embark on a boat journey towards the Thanedd Isle. However, as glimpsed in the trailers, their voyage encounters unexpected challenges.
A sea monster attacks their boat, but our heroes effortlessly defeat the creature, leaving the bards unscathed. Thankfully, their presence remains unharmed, as they play an essential role in the story.
Upon reaching land, Geralt, Ciri, and Jaskier reunite with Yennefer. Inspired by the books, a heartwarming scene unfolds where Geralt and Yennefer exchange “apologies” while Ciri and Jaskier offer amusing commentary.
Episode 5: “The Art of Illusion”
This episode marks the culmination of the entire series, building up from the first episode of Season 1. It is the first half of a significant two-part storyline, often likened to The Witcher’s version of the Red Wedding: the Thanedd ball.
In this episode, numerous intricate conversations incorporate elements from the books and new additions.
Various individuals and factions engage in schemes and plots, creating an atmosphere of intrigue. Amidst it all, a witcher feels particularly uneasy amidst these high-society individuals’ extravagant company.
One notable aspect revealed is that the episode employs a shocking approach to narration and editing.
It mirrors the style seen in episodes 101 and 107, where different perspectives gradually unveil new scenes and context within the same events. However, during the Thanedd ball, this technique is condensed into a single episode.
At this point in the story, Geralt and Yennefer have rekindled their relationship, and their evening together concludes with intense passion, reminiscent of their portrayal in the books.
The Witcher Season 3: Vol. 1 reaches a cliffhanger ending just before the impending explosion of events, leaving us eagerly awaiting the release of Vol. 2.
