Engage Kiss Season 2, when will it happen?

Often animes are based on mangas or light novels; however, sometimes, creators produce series which are categorized as original work.

Animes like Death Parade, Cowboy Bebop, SK8 Infinity, and Psycho-Pass have become incredibly popular and paved the way for more original work.

While original animes are few and far between these days, Summer 2022 was privy to one such series as A-1 Pictures s’ Engage Kiss hit the small screens.

The premise is set on the mysterious island of Bayron City, which is threatened by the appearance of a demon.

To maintain their anonymity, the city government hires a private military company to combat and neutralize these demons labeled “D-Hazard.”

The story follows Shu Ogata, who runs one of the private military companies called the “I&S” office, and her only employee is a demon girl named Kisara.

Despite Ku s’ nature of doing little work and spending extensively, Kisara has a soft spot for him and even helps him with housework.

Although Kisara toils to support him, Shu frequents the help of his ex-girlfriend Ayano Yugiri. The former couple used to work at a private military company called “AAA Defender Co.” 

Can the broke Shu Ogato save the city from the mysterious demons as he uncovers the truth behind the disappearance of his parents and sister is the central plot of the show.

Engage Kiss Season One was a relative success as some fans enjoyed the entertaining dynamics of the characters while others had mixed feelings about it.

Either way, fans who did like season one is wondering if there will be a second installment or not.

WHAT IS THE ENGAGE KISS SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE?

Engage Kiss Season One aired from 3rd July 2022 to 25th September 2022 for 13 episodes.

As of writing, there is no update from studio A-1 Pictures on the renewal of Engage Kiss Season 2.

Production studios consider various financial and commercial metrics before announcing a renewal.

Financially, the first Blu-ray Volume of Engage Kiss opened at 1,343 units in the first week, followed by 1,283 for the second volume. 

The third volume ranked fourth on the sales chart and sold 1,275 copies, while the fourth volume debuted in fifth place, selling 1,238 copies. 

Overall, the total sales of 6,200 copies surpassed expectations by twofold.

Thus, the series, albeit not jaw-dropping, has done a decent job of selling Blu-ray units which could eventually prove crucial when considering a renewal.

As mentioned earlier, Engage Kiss season one was no massive success compared to other rom-com action series like Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World, Lycoris Recoil, and Overlord.

Relatively, the IMDB user episode ratings are positive, which evidences that Engage Kiss has a sizeable fanbase expecting a sequel.

While the reviews and ratings can be considered favorable, a crucial factor for renewal will be the availability of studio and source material.

Currently, studio A-1 Picture has a stacked schedule with three (Mashle: Magic and Muscles, Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle: Rhyme Anima+, and Solo Levelling) new animes scheduled to release in 2023 and early 2024.

Furthermore, before Engage Kiss, A-1 Pictures produced another original work, Lycoris Recoil, which was far more popular and successful in the Summer 2022 slate.

Hence, it will not be surprising if Lycoris Recoil is a much more financially lucrative sequel to produce over Engage Kiss Season 2.

Being an original work, source material will again be an issue for the creators since creators do not have an already established manga or novel to fall back on.

However, the creators could consider adapting the story from the Engage Kill mobile game, released in Japan on 1st March 2023. But the chances of that happening are bleak as the anime is a part of the mixed media Project Engage, not the other way around.

All in All, Engage Kiss certainly has the requirements for a sequel, but it could be a multiyear wait before we get any updates on Engage Kiss Season 2 trailer or Engage Kiss Season 2 release date.

ENGAGE KISS MANGA CATCHUP

Engage Kiss manga is written and illustrated by Itachi. It began serialization in Square Enix’s online manga magazine Manga Up! on 2nd July 2022.

The manga has been collected into a single volume, with the latest issue released on 7th February 2023.

ENGAGE KISS SEASON 2 PLOT

In the finale of Engage Kiss Season 2, “Unresolved Grand Finale,” Kisara is up against saving Bayron City against Asmodeus.

Shu wants to beat Asmodeus without her help, but Kisara, thanks to her courage and determination, fights to save the people.

Despite her demon appearance and powers, she has always protected the city sincerely.

She destroys Asmodeus s’ body and frees Kanna from her demonic overlords, thus winning the battle.

Sharon leaves the city as she gives up pursuing Shu while Kisara and Shu continue to be good friends. 

Despite her missing memories, they continue their peaceful apartment life, wherein Kanna butts heads with her brother and Kisara. 

Things get considerably trickier when Ayano appears to join the collection of mistresses. 

Regardless of whether this re-establishes the pressure, it’s entertaining instead of terrifying, which lays out this scene as a blissful ending.

The title of the finale is called “Unresolved Grand Finale,” which could indicate the story is not and teases a second season.

One of the Engage Kiss Season 2 characters could be Chole Tang from the Engage Kill game. 

She is affiliated with the Rising Sun Military Company, and despite looking like a fragile girl, she has an astonishingly quick reaction coupled with superhuman strength.

She also excels in hand-to-hand combat; however, due to her voracious nature, she expends a lot of energy.

CONCLUSION

Based on the sales, ratings, and fan requests, Studio A-1 Pictures should deliver Engage Kiss Season 2, but will they? Only time will tell.
