The last episode of the Witcher Season 2 showcased the deaths of many Witchers with an incident at Kaer Morhen, and now the fans are asking – How many witchers are alive after Season 2?
The Witcher Series was released on Netflix in 2019 and is based on the Witcher video games and the Witcher books by Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher Season 1 entails the introduction of various characters who are living on the Continent and struggling to find their place in it.
The Witcher Series includes three main characters, Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), a monster slayer who hunts monsters for money, Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), a powerful sorcerer and Princess Cirilla of Cintra, Ciri (Freya Allan), a child with Elder Blood, has potential to end the whole world.
The Witcher Season 2 entails the journey of Geralt of Rivia and Ciri going to Kaer Morhen. During their journey, they encounter various horrifying monsters where Geralt is doing everything to protect Ciri and build up a bond between them.
In the Kaer Morhen, Geralt and many other witchers like him come to their hometown and spend winters together with the only family they have. The Witcher Season 2 showcases many witchers like Geralt in Kaer Morhen, but at the end of season 2, many of them die a horrible death.
The Witcher Season 2 was released in the year 2021, long after season 1, because of the global pandemic. Towards the end of season 2, the whole Continent became aware of Ciri being the child with Elder Blood and having enormous powers inside her. Everyone wanted to lay their hands on Ciri and use her powers for themselves.
Due to this, a demon, Deathless Mother, Voleth Meir, possessed Ciri, who was then on her way to Kaer Morhen and unleashed hell on the Witchers. Voleth Meir used Ciri’s powers to open a portal to another world from which horrifying creatures came out. All the witchers, including Vesemir, were trying to fight with those creatures who were destroying Kaer Morhen.
Whereas Yennefer and Geralt were trying to protect Ciri from Voleth Meir and Yennefer tried to sacrifice herself for Ciri. But none of it worked and because of Ciri’s powers Voleth Meir, with her monsters, killed many witchers at the end. Now with the Witcher Season 3 is on its way, fans are wondering, how many Witchers are still alive?
The Witcher Season 3: How Many Witchers are still alive?
The Witcher Season 2 presents many Witchers at Kaer Morhen, who all are Geralt’s family, who were there for each other during their Witcher transformation and training. Season 2 Witchers include Vesemir, played by Kim Bodnia, Eskel, played by Basil Eidenbenz, Lambert, played by Paul Bullion, Coën, played by Yasen Atour, and a few others. The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf included only above mentioned four witchers, but Netflix’s Witcher added more.
The point when Geralt and Ciri reached Kaer Morhen, there were already ten witchers present there, and Geralt was the 11th Witcher. However, after Geralt, Eskel arrived, making the total Witcher count 12.
Although in the credits, only eight witchers are mentioned, which are Vesemir, Geralt, Eskel, Coen, Edward, Gwain, and Merek. As we all witnessed, Eskel died in the starting because he was bitten by a mutated Leshen, also known as Leshy, a dangerous creature in the woods who lives only to kill.
With Voleth Meir taking over Ciri’s body, things got messy at the end, as the Deathless Mother brought death and destruction over Kaer Morhen. Voleth Meir’s actions resulted in killing 3 Witchers named Gwain, Edward, and Merek, and later Vesemir stated two more dead, Vartok, and Yrden, only 5 of them were alive at the end.
There is a possibility that there might be more Witchers in the School of Wolf, who may be engaged otherwise and didn’t return to Kaer Morhen for winters. In the witcher books, there are two more schools of the wolf, whereas Netflix’s Witcher made some alterations to the source material.
It won’t be surprising if the Witcher Season 3 introduces more Witchers; after altering the source material, it uses it back for its benefit. The Witcher Season 2 focused solely on the trio, Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer, as it failed to let the viewers get to know about other Witchers. This problem can be fixed in the Witcher season 3, as focusing on the lives of alive witchers and, if introduced more, on those too.
